Would be known as Millie, but full name Camilla.

Thanks

I doubt they'd call her "Queen Camilla" very often. Possibly "queen consort" or something like that. In the media the queen is v rarely referred to as Queen Elizabeth I, far more usually just called "the queen". And the name Elizabeth hasn't exactly suffered from being a monarch's name.

BeckaH123 · 13/06/2014 12:23

Honestly... not for me! Don't really like strongly royalist names and this just makes me think of Parker-Bowles.

Not a huge fan of Millie either but that is because "milly" is an unpleasant word for a female where I come from! As in "she's a right milly". Obviously it doesn't have the same meaning in merry old England and I know little girls called Millie over here, so don't let that put you off. Smile

bouquetofpencils · 13/06/2014 12:28

Pretty but posh. Prefer Camlle, seems more French and sophisticated somehow.

HecatePropylaea · 13/06/2014 12:37

It's a nice enough name.

I also like Camille more than Camilla though.

But if what you want is to call her Millie - why don't you just name her Millie?

DenzelWashington · 13/06/2014 12:38

I much prefer Camilla to Camille or Millie. It's a lovely name.

Viviennemary · 13/06/2014 12:38

It's a nice name but pity about the link to C Parker Bowles.

KeeperOfBees · 13/06/2014 12:45

It's DDs middle name, so it's a yes from me Smile

Zippea · 13/06/2014 12:50

My DD2 is called Camilla. I've found one or two people do have very strong views on the name but on the whole, most don't mention any link with Camilla PB or react with abject horror!

Good luck

SconeRhymesWithGone · 13/06/2014 12:56

I like Camilla. FWIW, I also rather like the Princess of Wales, aka the Duchess of Cornwall.

squoosh · 13/06/2014 13:06

It's a bit of a braying, horsey name.

Camille is much nicer.

Umbrellasandladders · 13/06/2014 15:57

Love Camille

DiamondsAndRust · 13/06/2014 16:41

First thought: Parker-Bowles. Then the incestuous sister in The Secret History, and a very stereotypically horsey, pink pashmina-wearing girl I knew at university.

Not great associations - sorry! Shame, as in theory it's very pretty. Love Camille. Not a fan of Millie - massively overdone.

washngo · 13/06/2014 17:25

Bear in mind - all these associations other people may have will not be significant or relevant to your daughter. To you and everyone who knows her , her name will make them think of HER.

newyearnewshoes · 15/06/2014 20:19

Love it!

aprovinciallady · 15/06/2014 20:24

I love Camilla (the name). Not so keen on Milly. Milla is nice though.

Alisvolatpropiis · 15/06/2014 23:39

Love it.

Called my dog Millie though didn't I Sad. Can't ever use it.

OutragedFromLeeds · 16/06/2014 02:43

I really like it in isolation, but it just makes me think of a Made in Chelsea type girl/woman. Dreadfully posh and stupid. I can imagine her being a French and Saunders character.

Millie is nice.

Redglitter · 16/06/2014 02:52

I love how people are pointing out about the association with the Duchess if Cornwall. You'd think she was a mass murderer

washngo · 16/06/2014 13:53

I don't think it's any less rude to say a particular name stereotypes a person as "dreadfully posh and stupid" than it is to say a name makes a person sound "dreadfully chavvy and stupid". Lots of lovely inverse snobbery and judgement on this thread!

HattyMonkey · 16/06/2014 13:56

I think it is very pretty but agree with pp that Millie is very popular. If you are giving her such a pretty name use it.

losingmybelt · 16/06/2014 13:59

Hopefully things will bypass prince charles and old horseface and Wills and Kate will be king and queen!

molly84 · 16/06/2014 16:33

Fascinated by all your responses, thank you.

I agree with washngo, there is a lot of inverse snobbery going on on this thread. To be honest, I expected it, and that's why I posted the question. However, it still hasn't put me off the name and I just hope my child doesn't feel 'stereotyped' by certain people if we do go ahead and use it.

I have taken on board your thoughts on Millie, and will consider Milla as a nickname instead. I have loved having a nickname all my life and using my 'grown up name' as my official/serious name as I've got older. I would like the same for her.

Thanks again to everyone who took the time on comment, I appreciate it.

I love it.

But Millie as a nn where I'm from (NI) means the same as Ned in Scotland or Chav in England.

Sorry

PolyesterBride · 16/06/2014 16:42

I think people can say it reminds them of Camilla Parker Bowles without it being inverse snobbery. It's just a name that is associated with a particular person.

BeckaH123 · 16/06/2014 16:45

I don't think there's anything wrong with Camilla P-B. In fact I think she seems really fun. I'm just not a fan of strongly royalist names personally. For example I wouldn't choose to name my twins Katherine and William (BTW I don't have twins - just hypothetically). Nothing against them as people, they seem very nice and everything, just not for moi! Smile
