Middle name for Jude

Currently 8 days overdue and still unsure of a middle name for a potential son (don't know gender). Just about decided on Jude as first name and was planning to use my grandad's name Willis but I can't help but think that may result in teasing -eg rude willies?!

So alternatives are:

Patrick - OH's deceased father's middle name but was absent most of his life and not sure we want to honour him rather than my dad. Just like the name though.

William -favourite name ever but was my significant ex's name!

Gabriel - love this but other half not so keen.

Matthew -OH's name but he thinks it may be conceited to use it.

So suggestions welcomed please. We like classic, traditional names that aren't overly popular and have some meaning. Although with boys names we've found this difficult to achieve.

Oh and our little girl is called Martha Beatrice, if that helps.

Thanks.

I think Jude Matthew is lovely and not at all conceited

Ludways · 10/06/2014 23:13

I like Jude Matthew too

rockybalboa · 10/06/2014 23:15

Use Matthew. We'd run out of suitable family names for DS's middle name so used DH's name.

Nereida · 10/06/2014 23:36

Jude Matthew. It's not conceited to use it - it's a nice connection to your OH.

Another vote for Jude Matthew.

Needadvice5 · 10/06/2014 23:44

jude Mathew sounds good!

Youdontneedacriminallawyer · 10/06/2014 23:49

How about Obscure Grin

ShevelKnievel · 10/06/2014 23:51

I thought I was so hilarious but youdontneedacriminalllawyer beat me to it :)

Raeray · 10/06/2014 23:56

Before I saw you had given us options and I had just read title I thought Jude Alexander! From your options I also think Jude Matthew.
Congrats in advance Martha and Jude sound like a cool little pair Smile

I thought exactly the same as Raeray - the first name that came to mind was Alexander.

I agree with everyone else though, Matthew fits best with Jude from your list. Smile

OutragedFromLeeds · 11/06/2014 00:54

My first thought was Jude Alexander as well Confused Grin

I like Jude Patrick best, but don't name him after DH's absent father.

Jude Matthew is nice, but I don't like the middle name being the fathers name. It seems a bit odd to me.

Jude Gabriel doesn't flow as nicely as the others, although Gabriel is a lovely name.

I'd go for Jude William because it sounds lovely, William is a good name, it's your favourite name and it's close enough to Willis to still be inspired by your Grandfather's name.

I think Jude goes nicely with a longer middle name.

Jude Daniel
Jude Sebastian
Jude Nathaniel
Jude Tobias
Jude Oliver

LOVE Jude btw.

I think Jude Gabriel sounds lovely! (Clearly in the minority!)

I don't think Jude Willis will be teasing material? It's nice to honour someone.

Not keen on Matthew really .. Sorry.

BigfootFiles · 11/06/2014 11:17

I don't think middle names are widely known in the playground, are they?I'd go with Willis if that's a meaningful name to you.

squoosh · 11/06/2014 11:18

I just dissed your girl's name choice so in order to redress the balance I feel I should say that I absolutely love the name Jude!

Jude Patrick sounds best to me. It has a good rhythm and ends on a nice sharp sound whereas Matthew, Gabriel and William just kind of drift away.

squoosh · 11/06/2014 11:20

Oh just realised Patrick is the name of your partner's absentee father. No way I'd use it in that case, even if I loved the name above all others. Would seem wrong to bestow that honour on him.

I now vote for Jude Gabriel.
