Lily or Lilly?

I think Lilly is prettier but Lily is the more widely used spelling and don't want dd to constantly have to correct people.

What do you think?

Lily is so much prettier and tbh I'm really not keen on Lilly by itself and not as a shortened version of Lillian. A lily is an actual thing, why add an extra l?

Busymumto3dc · 06/06/2014 14:12

Prefer lily

Petal7 · 06/06/2014 14:12

Definitely Lily.

Youdontneedacriminallawyer · 06/06/2014 14:14

If you want to name her after the flower, then it's Lily.

Lilly isn't a word (and isn't a name as far as I know)

Molotov · 06/06/2014 14:18

Lily. I think that looks prettier.

Lilly would be appropriate for a shortening of Lillian, imo Smile

squoosh · 06/06/2014 14:19

I know lots of Lilys as well as a Lilly, Lili, and a Lillie.

I'd just go for Lily though.

badtime · 06/06/2014 16:41

I had bever seen the spelling 'Lilly' until recently, and I don't like it. I like Lily (and quite like 'Lillie', which was popular in the 19th century, probably after actress Lillie Langtry).

ThingsThatShine · 06/06/2014 16:42

Lily much nicer

Bunbaker · 06/06/2014 16:43

Another vote for Lily with one L.

beanynamechange · 06/06/2014 16:51

I've always thought Lilly should have 2 Ls, and genuinely thought the other spelling was wrong... Clearly not!!

pilates · 06/06/2014 18:51

Def Lily

catsrus · 06/06/2014 19:10

why would you name a child after a pharmaceutical company? That was my first thought tbh. www.lilly.co.uk/en/about/index.aspx

dollius · 06/06/2014 19:11

Lily of course

BabyHaribo · 06/06/2014 21:11

Mn has spoken!

Lily it is - it was really DH that wanted Lilly anyway Grin

Lillie is my favourite, but between Lily and Lilly I prefer Lily.

Bowlersarm · 06/06/2014 21:22

Lily.

Glad you're going with that selling OP. lovely name.

KERALA1 · 06/06/2014 22:56

Are you really set on this one? It's sooooo common, at least 2 in both my dds classes. It's this generations sarah.

Alisvolatpropiis · 06/06/2014 23:53

Lily as in flower

Lilly nickname for Lillian

That's how I see the names.

TurquoiseDress · 07/06/2014 15:03

I would spell it Lily.

The ones I know of spell their name that way.

pilates · 07/06/2014 17:35

KERALA1 popular not common and the op asked opinions on spelling not whether you like it or not.

Alisvolatpropiis · 07/06/2014 17:43

I think Kerala meant common as in common place.

Which is true.

KERALA1 · 08/06/2014 07:23

Common as in popular! I helped out on a school trip on Friday for a reception class - 4 of the girls were called lily. It was on our list as was my grandmothers name but popularity bothers me as I have a common name myself. If you don't mind that it's not a problem but be aware...
