...has DH lost the plot? He turned to me this morning and went "If we have a 3rd DD, what do you think of Elphaba?" I love the musical Wicked, but come on...

Tell me I'm not crazy to have laughed in his face?

I'm laughing. No no no.

WolfMoon · 31/05/2014 14:14

He was so adamant that it was a nice name for an actual real person that I was beginning to think it was ME! He even tried to justify it by saying it works with our surname, and the names of our two DDs.

Yes.

He has lost the plot.

Ememem84 · 31/05/2014 15:23

I quite like the name. But don't think I'd use it myself.

HolidayCriminal · 31/05/2014 15:26

(phew) I was struggling to think of anything tactful on this one.

Picturesinthefirelight · 31/05/2014 15:30

Elphie maybe?

I'm a huge Wicked fan but that's a step too far for even me.

NadiaWadia · 31/05/2014 15:51

The name in itself sounds fine. It is just the associations - people will expect her to be green! So I wouldn't.

WolfMoon · 31/05/2014 16:37

We weren't planning a 3rd DC, and I think this is sufficient evidence not to have a third if this is the kind of name he wants to saddle a daughter with Grin

He's sulking with me now as his brothers are laughing at him too now. He keeps going "It was just a suggestion. I didn't like all of YOUR names when you were coming up with them." Grin

No. Just no.

florascotia · 31/05/2014 17:53

Sorry, but just sounds like a yewneek spelling of Alphabet.

Picturesinthefirelight · 31/05/2014 18:23

It's derived from L F Baum's name Flora.

roundtable · 31/05/2014 18:39

Now I've got Defying Gravity in my head. Grin

Picturesinthefirelight · 31/05/2014 18:47

restandpeace · 31/05/2014 18:50

Its wicked

SquirrelledAway · 31/05/2014 19:26

Get a cat / dog / hamster and call insist on calling it Elphaba. The perfect veto for a baby name.

manicinsomniac · 31/05/2014 23:01

I think it's really pretty but no, you couldn't do it.

Though people are calling their daughters Renesmee now!

MsAspreyDiamonds · 01/06/2014 04:52

Elspeth or Elizabeth but not Elphaba....
