This name has suddenly emerged as a potential name for dd6 ,our previous shortlist had been Miranda or Cecilia with Miranda being the front runner. Opinions on rosemary probably nn posy or Romy please.should we seriously consider rosemary or stick with Miranda or possibly cecilia

Tis my aunt's name, I'm not a fan as it doesn't sound nice when pronounced by most people.

Posy and Romy however are adorable!!

Miranda and Cecilia lovely but Miranda gets nn Randy (or at least it did with my friend at school) and no-one can spell Cecilia/Cecelia.

TwistedThinking · 30/05/2014 21:29

Rosemarie?

oldbutnotpastit · 30/05/2014 21:33

I think I prefer the spelling Rosemary but will see what dh thinks

Lovely, lovely name. I'm less keen on your nicknames - just call her Rosemary :)

devoncreamtea · 30/05/2014 21:36

good name I think - loving 'Romy' too.

CaptWingoBings · 30/05/2014 21:40

I like Rosemary, then Cecilia, least of all Miranda. But all are perfectly pleasant names.

meringue33 · 30/05/2014 21:42

Rosie is a fab nn

ThursdayLast · 30/05/2014 21:42

If you like Posy or Romy, why not just call her that?
I think Rosemary is a lovely name, but I'd consider arise or Rosie the natural shortening of it.

ThursdayLast · 30/05/2014 21:43

*rose, not arise sorry!

oldbutnotpastit · 30/05/2014 21:49

Not keen on Rosie as a nn would prefer just to use rosemary if no nn.

HolidayCriminal · 30/05/2014 22:29

um, you will get every nn under the sun with that one, Roro, Ro, etc.
I like Rosemary a lot. But then I like or at least tolerate all the usual NNs & even creative variations on it.

I really don't like Posy though. Romy is meh. Rhymes with Homey.

guineapig1 · 30/05/2014 22:33

I think it's lovely, lots of potential for nicknames, Rosie, Posy, Romy, Mary etc
Also love Miranda nn Miri, Mira and Andi though which is lovely

meditrina · 30/05/2014 22:36

What about Rosalind?

Rosemary is fine, but if you like Shakespearian names, then Rosalind is (I think) far nicer but with a similar feel IYSWIM.

Of your other two possibilities, I like Miranda better.

oldbutnotpastit · 30/05/2014 22:42

Unfortunately Rosalind is not an option as a very very close family member has that name . I like Rosamund but dh is not keen.

Meditrina we did also consider Hermione continuing the Shakespearean theme but felt it was too associated with harry potter to be a realistic option

Rosemary is my dd2. I originally wanted Rose but we compromised. I call her Rose Grin

I, of course, think it's a lovely name: not common, can be shortened in pretty ways.

loveableshoulder · 30/05/2014 22:46

Has some gravitas but not frumpy too.

nickdrakeslovechild · 30/05/2014 22:47

Rosemary is lovely, vetoed by my OH but I like it.

oldbutnotpastit · 31/05/2014 07:06

Glad to hear other people like it , I like rose but it doesnt work with our surname , I'm also beginning to wonder about using the name Rosanna as maybe it feel slightly less middle aged ,

Bonsoir · 31/05/2014 07:10

Roseanna
Rosamund

bigkidsdidit · 31/05/2014 07:14

This was our girl's name but we had ds2 instead. It's lovely - classic, not around a lot, everyone can spell it. Lovely :)

BellaOfTheBalls · 31/05/2014 07:17

Rosemary is nice, but YY I imagine spellings would be tricky.

I like Miranda as well but prefer Cecily to Cecelia, which makes me think of the Simon & Garfunkel song.

oldbutnotpastit · 31/05/2014 07:28

I like Rosamund dh feels its too harsh and needs to be convinced.
Rosanna I am definitely considering as an alternative .,

I adore the name Cecily. Really wanted it for dd5 bu dh vetoed it ,however, it is dd5's mn so I'm reluctant to use it .

I love Rosemary, but DP wasn't keen so we called her Romy (and get lots of compliments for it Smile)
