Thoughts on calling baby after his Dad?

I'm just wondering what the general opinion is for naming a child after his father?
My DH has quite an unusual name, not overly used.
Just looking for some opinions? Smile

My dad did this with my brother's name and they both go by the same shortened form of the name, surprisingly it wasn't confusing, but I like the idea of using the father's name as the child's middle name better.

It's fine as long as both like it.

What is the name?

I think it's bonkers - how confusing even once they've grown up and left home, but especially while they are both living together.
It shows real lack of imagination - after all there are hundreds and hundreds of names out there, could you really not think of an original name for a whole new, original person?

It's especially confusing if the Dad uses the short form and the DC the long as a DF of mines DH and DS do.

Middle names are fine, DSIL, me and DD1 all have our mother's name as our second name and thars no problem.

Had I had a DS his first name would have been DH's second name.
