Could you put these 4 names in order from first to last preference please?

Theodore - i probably like all the nick names more than the full version. Neither family is keen.

Hugo - dont like hugh ot huey. Family not keen on this either.

Henry - both families like this one. What nick names do henrys get?

Kasper - not sure how to spell. My family dont like it.

We live in OZ so name trends are a bit different to the UK. I would guess the first 3 are more

.... More popular in UK than Oz.

Henry
Theodore
Hugo
Casper, this spelling

I love Henry and I don't think it needs a nickname

TheNumberfaker · 29/05/2014 22:40

Henry (Harry, Hank but that's quite American)
Casper
Hugo
Theodore (I'm an atheist so the "God's gift" meaning really puts me off)

LindaMcCartneySausage · 29/05/2014 22:42

Henry
Theodore
Hugo
Caspar (not with a K)

evelynj · 29/05/2014 22:43

Hugo
Henry
Theodore
Casper

Misfitless · 29/05/2014 22:49

Henry (Hal/Harry)

Hugo

Theodore (really don't like)

Casper (like even less)

TheHorseHasBolted · 29/05/2014 22:50
  1. Theodore
  1. Caspar (my favourite spelling)
  1. Henry

4, Hugo (but I still quite like it)

littlegreengloworm · 29/05/2014 22:52

From your list I love Henry. I don't see Casper as a contender against such a lovely strong name ( only my opinion so best to take your time and you will know why you love the most yourself)

Is Henry Harry (prince harry) ?

Smartiepants79 · 29/05/2014 22:54

Theodore - like both theo and teddy as nick names.
Henry - wouldn't bother to shorten I don't think. The only henry I know gets called Hen!
Hugo - ok, bit posh for me.
Casper - is awful, just make me think of the friendly ghost.

Viatrix · 29/05/2014 22:59
  1. Henry
  2. Kaspar - I prefer this spelling
  3. Hugo
  4. Theodore
gointothewoods · 29/05/2014 23:01

Hugo (may be biased)
Caspar (hate the K spelling)
Henry
Theodore (prefer Ted or Teddy)

Linguaphile · 29/05/2014 23:11

Hugo (Victor Hugo is my favourite author!)
Henry (no nn needed)
Theodore
Caspar

calzone · 29/05/2014 23:14

Theo.....by miles.

Caspar
Henry/Hugo not keen.

Fgs, stop telling your family the names you like.

Say things like 'we like Ryan and Elliott rather than Edmund and Boris but the final name, we have not decided yet.'

halecromp · 29/05/2014 23:29

Henry
Hugo
Theodore
Kasper

Essel · 30/05/2014 00:07

Thanks. i have taken the Casper/kaspar feedback on board.

Calzone - I know. I didn't really want to but they made me so I mentioned one name and they obviously didn't like it, so I mentioned another and another until I got a name with an OK reaction.

THenumberfaker - DP is a passionate atheist too. I haven't told him the meaning of theodore yet.

Spartiepants - I'm not sure I would use Hugo in the UK but Australians don't really have the same connotations with 'posh' names, so I feel a bit freer here.

You are brave generous letting your family hold forth on their name preferences. Smile
Is that your side or have you risked letting PILs in on this too? It's nearly impossible to keep everyone happy!

Anyway - tonight's order of preference:
Henry
Theodore + Caspar
Hugo

I know you didn't ask for suggestions but can I throw one into the ring, Jasper?

Lanabelle · 30/05/2014 01:10

Theodore (love it shortened to teddy for a boy or girl)
Hugo (totally not just because he was my second pony)
Henry (traditional and old fashioned as well as a bit unique)
Kaspar - not sure I like that at all

but at the end of the day none of what I just said matters, its you that has to pick it so go with what you like

SavoyCabbage · 30/05/2014 06:19

There's a Henry in my dds class and he doesn't get shortened (which is unusual in Australia!) all the other bits seem to have a 'o' in their name for a nickname.

devoncreamtea · 30/05/2014 09:59

Don't let their reactions bother you OP - not their choice!

I love Hugo, I know a really great boy (think just William...) called Hugo so that clinches it for me!

Theodore - like nn Theo best
Henry - ok
Caspar - not so much.

Are these your shortlist or are their any more contenders? Naming babies is so personal - you will know what fits best when you meet your little chap - go with what feels right to you and family etc will just accept it as your Son will just become the name. Congratulations!

pilates · 30/05/2014 10:04

Love the name Henry

HeyBungalowBill · 30/05/2014 10:07

I only like Henry OP!
Not a fan of any of the others

Guin1 · 30/05/2014 10:12

Theodore (nn Teddy or Theo)
Caspar
Henry
Hugo

Love Theodore, and quite like all the others.

Smartiepants79 · 30/05/2014 20:57

I can see that Hugo would work better with an Ozzie accent!

squoosh · 30/05/2014 21:17

Theo(Theodore)
Cass (Casper)
Henry

Tell your family to 'rack off' OP. Wink

You don't need to consult them!
