Name for DC5- DD3

MrsSheldonCooper1 · 27/05/2014 13:29

Hi all,

Expecting DC5, DD3 June 12th.

Our other 4 (in order eldest-youngest)
Jonathan (Jonty), Harry, Louisa, Emily.

On our shortlist are
Helena
Holly
Rosanna
Violet
Kate
Holly
Eden-Edie
Alexandra

DP really likes Miranda. I'm not so sure but I love Andi as a nn, whereas DP hates it! So Miranda will probably be ruled out.

Surname begins with W, one syllable. Think Dirty Den/Angie/Sharon

What are your thoughts on our list so far? Any other suggestions definitely welcome!

Your other 4 names are quite classic, so I'd avoid the more 'modern' names like Holly and Eden. You could have Edie for Edith though. But as you already have an Emily I'd avoid so that you don't have letters arriving for 'Miss E W***' and you don't know who they are for... Helena and Violet are very nice, I think.

MrsSheldonCooper1 · 27/05/2014 14:22

Thanks biscuits. I wasn't aware that Holly was a "modern" name at all! But I see what you mean about Eden

I don't think of Holly as being particularly modern either, but would probably avoid it as that would make the fourth of your DC's names ending in 'y'.

If you use Alexandra or Rosanna make sure you like the short names as well.

My personal favourite is Kate, which I love.

Mrsindecision · 27/05/2014 14:38

I would choose Kate or Alexandra from your list - both sound great with the other sibling names and are solid classics. Whilst I really like Helena, the confusion in pronunciation would put me off and none of your other children have this issue with their name.

WowserBowser · 27/05/2014 14:42

Violet is my favourite

fuzzyduck234 · 27/05/2014 16:11

My favourite is Helena as it has lovely nn's such as Helli which i also love!

Kantha · 27/05/2014 17:17

Helena. Sounds lovey with the other children's names and good with the surname.

calzone · 27/05/2014 17:20

With such classic names, I would not change genre.....

Names that come to mind that go with the other names are

Grace
Charlotte
Hannah

Benjamin
Michael
William

Kate or alexandra

Legionofboom · 27/05/2014 17:55

Your children names have beautiful names.

From your list:
Helena - Nice and goes well with the other names. How would you pronounce it?
Holly - Too similar to Harry
Rosanna- Love this. My favourite from your list.
Violet - Not keen. Feels more vintage than classic which your other names are.
Kate - Nice but short with one syllable surname.
Eden-Edie - Not bad but not sure it works with your other names
Alexandra - Lovely classic name with good nickname potential.

I would also suggest Anna.

DessieLou · 27/05/2014 22:00

Helena gets my vote. It goes lovely with your other dc's names. I know a Miranda who is known as Mindy.

SoftSheen · 27/05/2014 22:05

I like Helena and Violet from your list, though I'm not sure whether Violet would go with your surname.

How about Rosamund, Marianne or Annabel?

sanssoleil · 27/05/2014 22:14

I love Rosanna.

Not keen on Eden[too American/Androgynous] -prefer Edith as Edie[fits in better with your other dc names]

Love Alexandra too.

TheHoundsBitch · 27/05/2014 22:19

Helena goes best with the other DCs I think :)

BlueStarsAtNight · 27/05/2014 22:37

I like Rosanna or Helena are the best choices. I actually think Kate goes best with your other children's names but it's a bit short with a one syllable surname.

I also think Holly is too close to Harry, and don't like Eden or Violet. Alexandra works but I can't make myself like it!

DramaAlpaca · 27/05/2014 22:52

Helena or Rosanna.

I also like Violet & Kate, but I think Helena or Rosanna would work better with your surname.

BewitchedBotheredandBewildered · 28/05/2014 00:00

I think Rosanna sounds too much like Hosannah!

I love Violet but she may get Camper Van as a nickname!

sanssoleil · 28/05/2014 00:10

Hosannah is maybe a little evangelical BBB but Shoshannah is a good substitute if you are 'on that page'

Rosanna is a good name.as is Helena.Violet, Alexandra.

Mutteroo · 28/05/2014 01:20

Rosanna, Helena or Alexandra are my favourites & go well with your other DC's names.

Other possibilities;
Susanna
Vivienne
Francesca
Isadora

MrsSheldonCooper1 · 28/05/2014 08:39

Thanks for all the input everyone :)

Rosanna is our #1 at the moment although I'm coming around to miranda tooSmile

brackengirl · 28/05/2014 08:55

I have a Rosanna and it is my absolute favourite name, easy to say and spell but not nearly as popular as you might think (only 42 born in 2010.) Lots of people call her Rosie and she uses both Rosie and Rosanna herself- but will correct anyone who calls her Rosanne! I think it goes beautifully with your other names too

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 28/05/2014 10:58

I love Kate and Alexendra. One is dd's name and the other is what I would have called ds if he'd been a girl. (Actually I really wanted Emily but dh doesn't like it.)

If you go for Kate, with your other kids names and your surname I'd go for Katherine and shorten.

Mumoftwoyoungkids · 28/05/2014 10:59

Loops - AlexAndra!

Stokey · 28/05/2014 11:56

I love Miranda, also Melissa in a similar vein.

But if this is going to be your last child Kate, or another single-syllable name like Eve, works well as a full-stop!

TEACUP123 · 28/05/2014 12:05

Alexandra is my favorite. Also like Kate and Helena
