Caroline?

What do you think - is it a classic, or too old-fashioned?
Do you think it's usable on a child today?

How about nicknames, any suggestions other than Carrie?

Thanks! Smile

I like it.
I know 2 Carolines who are called Caz.

squoosh · 27/05/2014 00:28

Oh I love Caroline. Definitely classic.

Caro or Carrie are nice nicknames. Definitely not Caz though.

Fram · 27/05/2014 00:35

I think it's lovely, and I knew a really nice one when I was a small girl.

PairOfTerrors · 27/05/2014 02:01

I love it :) I know a little Carolina. Very elegant.

NigellasDealer · 27/05/2014 02:09

Love Carolina - just the nn 'Carol' sounds so dated

PairOfTerrors · 27/05/2014 02:11

I agree nigellasdealer...not keen on Carol at all. But Caroline/a are very pretty

SaggyAndLucy · 27/05/2014 02:13

How about Can, Callie or linnie for nicknames? I love Caroline but it was vetoed by my entire family! Sad

SaggyAndLucy · 27/05/2014 02:13

Cal even!

NigellasDealer · 27/05/2014 02:23

love Callie like the girl from Follyfoot farm Grin

poppydaisy · 27/05/2014 06:54

Caroline is beautiful. I wouldn't shorten it but Cal, Callie, Carol, Carrie are all nice nicknames imo.

Kantha · 27/05/2014 07:10

We were going to call DS2 Caroline but obviously couldn't. Now expecting DC3 but have since moved house. The new neighbour is a Carolyn and is somewhat annoying which has put me off it even though they are different names. Hmm

Like it though and like nn Carrie. It is also a seriously unpopular name at the moment which for me is a good thing.

turningvioletviolet · 27/05/2014 09:17

My sister is Caroline - it seemed to be popular in the 80s. She is forever known as Caro.

Only 28 Carolines born in 2012. Didn't realise it was as rare as that.

Hassled · 27/05/2014 12:55

Caroline is a lovely name. And I like Carrie lots.

oneboy3girls · 27/05/2014 21:40

I wanted Caroline twice, but we decided on other names.l really like it.

squoosh · 27/05/2014 21:42

It's very Euro royal.

EvilTwins · 27/05/2014 21:42

DH's cousin is married to a Caroline nn Cadi.

I know one nn Caro.

DessieLou · 27/05/2014 21:47

I like it but have a Madeleine, so they're a bit too similar sounding. Carrie is a lovely nn, as is Caro. I remember seeing a programme ages ago that had a Caro in it & thinking it was lovely. The character was a bit crackers though!

DramaAlpaca · 27/05/2014 22:49

Really like Caroline. It sounds sophisticated & classy.

alita7 · 27/05/2014 22:55

Not a fan I'm afraid, too 70s for me and would be worried about the nickname Carol. Personally I prefer Carolina or Carina but I do like Carrie as a nickname though :)

Viatrix · 27/05/2014 23:14

Thanks everyone, I quite like Cally / Callie as a nickname as well, and I like Carolina - although I don't know if most would say that ending in lee-na or lye-na.

I like Caroline but Carolina just makes me think of the song "oh Carolina" or whatever it was called!

squoosh · 27/05/2014 23:20

Carolina makes me think of that Shaggy song.
