Potential dd's name too much like dh's name?

I had thought that dh and I had agreed on a girl's name, Thea. But now dh has decided he isn't keen and I am a bit gutted because I love it and had my heart set on it. So now we are thinking again and I am struggling to get very enthusiastic about any of his suggestions.

His top name is Adelaide - any opinions? What would it get shortened to?

His other suggestion is Alice, which I actually quite like as a name, but my concern is that, to me, it sounds a lot like dh's name, which is Alex. Does this actually matter? Or am I just looking for excuses because I want to have Thea?

If your DH doesn't want Thea, then you need to get over it, and choose a different name. But you don't have to go with a name he likes, if you don't like it, either.

Keep going - I'm sure you'll find a name you can both agree on.

An Alice and an Alex in a family may cause confusion from time to time.

Adelaide is awful. So fussy and lumpen.

Try and get him back on board with Thea!

Salazar · 25/05/2014 15:43

I too think you need to keep looking. Maybe investigate more Th names?

ajandjjmum · 25/05/2014 15:52

DD is Alex, and people do mis-hear and call her Alice. Agree Thea is lovely, but looks like you'll both have to think again! Smile

I like Alice best out of your names. I don't think Alice and Alex for daughter and father is a problem - for siblings it would be though.

Sorry but I'm not keen on Adelaide and have an irrational dislike for Thea, Theo etc..

LynetteScavo · 25/05/2014 16:21

Adelaide is awful. So fussy and lumpen.

Sorry to all those with little Adelaides, but I agree.

Alice and Alex are very, very similar.

I couldn't use Thea as DS2 said "fear".

Sorry, I'm not being at all helpful.

DramaAlpaca · 25/05/2014 16:22

I don't think Alice & Alex are too close for daughter/father names. My own name is similar in sound to DS2's and it has never caused a problem.

janie2 · 25/05/2014 18:18

No not too similar for father and daughter. I love the name Alice!

I actually know a sib set called Alexander and Alice and tbh in real life it isn't that misheard!

MsJupiter · 25/05/2014 18:28

Does he like Althea? Could be a compromise?

Spinaroo · 25/05/2014 18:29

Adele?

LaceyLee · 25/05/2014 18:33

Or Alicia? Alice and Alex are v similar and Adelaide is not nice! Allegra also lovely

BlueStarsAtNight · 25/05/2014 19:01

Personally I adore Adelaide (Addie) and don't like Thea.

I think Alex and Alice are a bit too close really. Sounds like you both need to have a re-think I'm afraid....you have have to both love the name but you do have to like it!

BlueStarsAtNight · 25/05/2014 19:02

You don't have to both love it I mean!

Mynewone · 25/05/2014 19:03

Yy to Althea I was just going to suggest the same/ I think its prettier than Thea and its a good compromise

GRW · 25/05/2014 19:17

Or Alethea is pretty, and a bit like a combination of Alice and Thea.

2kidsintow · 25/05/2014 19:29

I've taught siblings called Alice and Alex. I did wonder about it at

2kidsintow · 25/05/2014 19:30
