I'm asking for my sister :)

We grew up in the Olsen twin era and both loved the name Mary-Kate. Now all these years later she still really likes it. The Olsens seem to have faded away from the limelight a bit. do you still to think people would immediately associate with them? What are your general thoughts of the name?

Her DH thinks Mary is too old fashioned but he likes Kate. Any idea of other double barrel names ending with Kate?

Mary-Kate will always make me think Olsen but I assume she likes that connection.

I know an Emily-Kate.

Kate Mary

OhFFSWhatsWrongNow · 25/05/2014 13:29

I think Mary Kate is lovely. Though strangely I don't like them individually.

JazzAnnNonMouse · 25/05/2014 13:56

And Ashley

Is all I would think

Leeds2 · 25/05/2014 15:33

I think And Ashley too!

I know two Emily-Kates, although one is known as Emily/Em.

cookielove · 25/05/2014 15:42

I automatically think Olsen, which is a shame as do love the name. How about Mary-Katherine?

Jazz i thought that to!!

SpringBee · 25/05/2014 16:43

Yeah this is what she was worried about! Then again do the younger generation even know much about them? I mean by the time she started school, would the kids even have any idea who they were?

I think Mary-Kate from the book series, cant remember who by - Meet Mary-Kate, Mary-Kate and the Jumble Bear etc. I don't think Olsen. But I am late 30s, prob missed the whole Olsen thing.

CPtart · 25/05/2014 16:58

I know two, one aged 9 and one 4. Don't like it personally, too fussy.

bouncingbelle · 25/05/2014 18:08

Ella-Kate?

Onesleeptillwembley · 25/05/2014 18:11

That's bad. And please don't double barrel. Naff naff naff. I'm still wondering wtf my parents were thinking in the 60's when they double barrelled mine!

squoosh · 25/05/2014 18:38

It sounds very wholesome.

MrsBungle · 25/05/2014 18:40

Firstly I think ... And Ashley

Secondly, I don't like double-barrelled names.

BatWings · 25/05/2014 18:48

I know a Lily-Kate. I think its a pretty name. Mary-Kate is lovely too, but it will forever be associated with the Olsen Twins.

Ludways · 25/05/2014 19:35

Don't like the double-barrel thing, very 60/70's America and very twee.

SideOfFoot · 25/05/2014 20:32

I had to google to find out who the Olsen twins are. Ok, I'm not into that kind of thing so that's why i didn't know who they were , although there is a vague thought at the back of my head that I had heard of them somewhere iyswim.

Mary-Kate is nice as are Mary and Kate on their own.

threepiecesuite · 25/05/2014 20:39

I like Emma Jane and Katy Jane. Simple and sweet.

Orangeisthenewbanana · 25/05/2014 20:41

Sorry, Olsen was my first thought too.

justhayley · 25/05/2014 21:45

I think .....and Ashley, but growing up with that name your daughter will have no idea who the Olsen twins are - only her friends parents I guess. If your sister likes the name she should go for it

ratqueen · 26/05/2014 11:19

What justhayley wrote!

Mutteroo · 26/05/2014 11:25

Probably not helpful but I'm another who really doesn't like double barrelled names. It's a bad old fashioned thing to do imho

ThingsThatShine · 26/05/2014 11:57

I think Olsen and I think they are still well known. You see them mentioned in fashion mags etc and I often see teens pinning pics of the Olsen girls on Pinterest! I don't think its necessarily a problem though and I do think the name is nice.

Swoosg · 26/05/2014 13:42

I LOVE Mary Kate - would drop the hyphen to give the child more flexibility though.

Weegiemum · 26/05/2014 13:47

My dh has a double-barrelled first name and hates it. Always uses the second part of it. His only stipulation on naming our dc was that we'd NEVER have a double first name!
