I really wanted Theo for my DS but DH was adamant not to use it. I still think he would be a great Theo but 10 yrs on I still love the name we settled on for him.

No idea what would happen if we had another girl though as I adore my DD's name and anything else would definitely be second best!

Salazar · 19/05/2014 14:04

No, I've not used mine. Won't be able to either, as DH's surname makes it sounds ridiculous.

MavisDee · 19/05/2014 14:04

Yes, I also worry about subsequent babies having a 'second best' name!

Mutteroo · 19/05/2014 14:04

Yes for DS, no for DD but adore her abbreviated name & that's the name she is known by.
DS's name is still my favourite boys name even though it is extremely popular!

WolfMoon · 19/05/2014 14:26

Yup, DTD1 has my favourite name and DTD2 has DH's favourite name. Fortunately, we both loved each others favourites!

ToffeeJungle · 19/05/2014 17:33

Yes, used our favourite boys name on DS1. No idea what we'll call DC2 if it turns out to be another boy!

skinmysunshine · 19/05/2014 17:36

For DS surprisingly yes. When I first mooted it DH didn't want it at all do I discounted. Then we both loved Felix right up until a week before he was born when BIL put DH off it. When DS arrived DH said "why don't we use your original suggestion" and now we both love it.

For DD no. DH loves the name more than me but it does suit her. He doesn't like any of the girl's names I like

HeyBungalowBill · 19/05/2014 17:37

Favourite boys name was used on DS which I am very pleased about Smile

No other DCs to use other favourites on as of yet

Mrsfrumble · 19/05/2014 17:45

Yes for my favorite girl's name. I fell in love with it when I was about 19 and decided it would be the name of my future daughter. Fortunately Mrfrumble and our families all agreed. She's 19 months old and suits her perfectly.

Sadly my favorite boy's name sounds daft with Mrfrumble's last name, so I had to compromise for DS. He has a lovely, classic name, and I'm sort of relieved that we didn't use my favourite as it's now the most popular boy's name in the US (where we live), but I still get the odd pang of regret.

splendide · 19/05/2014 18:27

Yes, I used it on my cat. Now pregnant, feeling a little silly but she is a magnificent cat.

Chocotrekkie · 19/05/2014 18:30

Yep for dd1. Struggled with dd2 and although I really like her name and it totally suits her I don't love it the way I do with dd1s.

Aboyandabunny · 19/05/2014 18:39

Yes always loved DS name as a good, solid Scottish boys name. DH liked it too as not popular but not 'way out'.

stripedtortoise · 19/05/2014 18:41

Yup both of them for first and middle name.
Name for DC2 is always going to feel inferior I feel.

TheHorseHasBolted · 21/05/2014 19:13

I haven't used my favourite girls' name as I never had any girls!

dustarr73 · 21/05/2014 21:34

Yes i never had girls and at this stage its highly unlikely. So the name(s) i had are unused

Yes. I knew dh was the one for me when he told me his favourite girl's name and it was the same as mine. We were both delighted when dd arrived and we could give her the name we'd hypothetically referred to our future daughter as for seven years!

alita7 · 23/05/2014 17:43

I can't use my two favourites but we've found an absolutely brilliant compromise and as im imagining my child called it, it's slowly catching up with them and becoming a favourite :)

Asleeponasunbeam · 24/05/2014 07:30

DH didn't like my favourite ever girls' name, but actual I'm much happier with the choice we made together.

My favourite boys' name was Cameron. Ruined for us forever by Dave, unfortunately!

BlueStarsAtNight · 24/05/2014 07:34

We didn't use my favourite name as DH wasn't a big fan, and I decided it was too popular in the end. It doesn't really go with DS's name so probably won't use it at all, unless maybe a mn. I like DS's name but it's a bit more marmite!

ThinkIveBeenHacked · 24/05/2014 07:35

I gave DD the name I had loved for ten years. Thankfully DH loved it too, though if I recall, he vetoed it when he got our bfp. Came round in the end without any pressure from me.

Ive since fallen in love with a second girls name and want to use it for this bump however DH has vetoed it. Im leaving the discussions til after the 20 week scan so Im not falling in love with names ill never have a chance to use.

He has vastly different tastes - My favourite Olive against his, Chloe.

weatherall · 24/05/2014 09:23

No didn't get to use it.

Big regret.

dontevenblink · 25/05/2014 01:24

Couldn't use my favourite girl's name, Rose, as it cannot be used with our surname (would sound ridiculous) Sad, then my second choice didn't seem to suit dd, so we used DH's favourite. With ds1 we used my favourite, which was the only name we both liked, and then we really struggled to find a boy's name for ds2! DH came up with zero suggestions so in the end (after a week of ds2 having no name) I gave DD a choice of two and got her to pick one Grin and the other name we used as his middle name.

I don't know what we're going to call the baby if dc4 is a boy!!!

StetsonsAreCool · 25/05/2014 20:54

I won't be able to use my favourite boys name, as it's DH's name.

DD was my favourite girls name at the time, still is actually, so luckily DH agreed with me. We love her name. If this one is a girl, it will get a second best name. Still early days, but I really think that this time we'll have a nameless baby for a while as I'm just not inspired at all!
