Silent lurker for about three months, but never posted before.

Four days ago I gave birth to our gorgeous DD. She really is a glorious little babe! Inbetween waiting for the whole world to fall out of my fanjo, for, despite the 12 stitches that feels like what is going to happen, salt baths and twice hourly breastfeeding sessions, we need to think of a name for our beautiful girl.

From 21 weeks, we thought I was giving birth to a Thea Eloise, but she is definitely not. Neither is she a Romilly Alice. Or a Madeleine. Ditto Phoebe. Confused

She is however, a glorious little babe, have I mentioned that already? All pouty lips, button nose, dark hair and big blue eyes. swoon And despite being a breast milk ninja, she has stolen our hearts already.

I have a strong suspicion she could be a Polly Alice, but DP is concerned that mil some people may think its a silly, indulgent name. (Not mil bashing, for the most part, she is great, but a dreadful snob!)

So, what I need from you are your best suggestions for a beautifully vintage, old fashioned or even slightly twee name. Out of the top twenty would be the ideal remit, but not a deal breaker.

Thank you so much in advance :)

I wouldn't worry too much about the name not suiting thing- I was really unsure about our (previously loved) DS's name- it just felt like such a huge decision and I wanted to be sure!! So we practiced calling him by his name for 48 hours before we told anyone and once we'd said it for a day or so he was never going to be anything else. But it feels like a big pressure to get it right, doesn't it?!

Fwiw, thea is beautiful, as is Cecily. Ds1 goes to nursery with a Cecily and they call her ceci ("sessy") which I think is just delicious!

Congratulations btw, she sounds divine.

Solasum · 13/05/2014 21:53

Alda

Blueuggboots · 13/05/2014 21:54

What about Celeste? (I know one and she is a dr of English)

Scotslasslivinginfrance · 13/05/2014 22:05

Maude
Delphine
Violette
Cecily

I do also really like Thea and Romilly...

Our DD was nameless for days and days...

funnyoldonion · 13/05/2014 22:34

Our daughter didn't look like the name she was supposed to have so we called her something else, then 4 months later when she looked nothing like a bright red fuzzy newborn we officially changed her name to what it was meant to be!

People just become they're names and I always think it's hard to call a newborn baby by their name at first too, we called both our girls 'the baby' for a few weeks or other cute nicknames so I think you should stick with Thea, don't live to regret it x

funnyoldonion · 13/05/2014 22:35

*their

Ps I love the way you write, LOL'd several times reading this x congrats in gorgeous baby girl x

Paq · 13/05/2014 22:39

Cecily is lovely.

I also love Louisa, and the nn's associated.

Congratulations Thanks

Lizlette · 13/05/2014 22:42

I know a Pauline who uses Polly as a nickname-would that work?

Constance/Connie?

Our DD was Bean for best part of her first week because I was so used to calling her that when I was pregnant that no 'proper' name felt right. Drove the families mad, not knowing what we were calling her!

PepperMallow · 13/05/2014 22:44

I'd also suggest waiting and 'trying out' Thea. My DC didn't really look like the names we'd spent months agonising over, infact DC2 looked completely like another name. We stuck with the original names though and I'm so glad we did.

DuckyMoDuckyMoMo · 13/05/2014 22:48

Whatever you do don't pick josephene/josephene it's unusually but I hate it it's my name lol

adaloveslace · 13/05/2014 22:55

Since you've mentioned Polly, Posy and Kitty, I suspect the problem is that Thea doesn't seem cute or scrunchy enough at the moment for your gorgeous little bundle. But she will grow up to more than a gorgeous little bundle and you might regret giving up on Thea. Having said that, I am partial to a bit of Polly.

If Thea is a definite no, how about something grown up with the option of a scrunchy nickname for now? eg
Romilly - Romy
Thalia - Tallie
Emmeline - Mimi

The Romilly I know has a sister Saskia, which is lovely too (Kiki?)

NorksEnormous · 13/05/2014 22:57

How about penny?

Pasithea · 13/05/2014 23:09

We have a Thea, who is 5. Until she was about 2 I didn't feel her name suited her, but now it is just perfect. I think it is just one of those names that are quite 'grown up ' which is great for later life but a bit strange for a tiny child. She was (and still often is) Boo (or 'the Boo' for some reason) to us at home.

Is a bit like Florence or Anastasia - great names, but a bit much for the baby stage!

bouquetofpencils · 13/05/2014 23:45

Polly
Poppy
Penny
Peggy
Primrose

Middle names:

Alice
Kate
Rose
Joy

Incidentally my DD who is 9mo is now known by a nn which has nothing to do with her real name whatsoever.

Vijac · 13/05/2014 23:56

I love Thea and agree that she will grow into it, it's just not such a cutesy baby name like polly. I like Theodora and Lola too. I don't think Florence is popular, I've never met one! Another idea is Heidi.

Dovahkiin · 14/05/2014 00:26

Rosalie

Graciejoylove8 · 14/05/2014 01:38

She sounds beautiful!
With pouty lips and dark hair
I'd choose.
Ruby Valentine
Or
Remy Valentine

Alice is sweet too.

MammyH95 · 14/05/2014 01:44

What about Ava? I know its not an old fashioned name, but still lovely! Lilly-Rose? Alexis? Jasmine?

MammyH95 · 14/05/2014 01:45

I dont mean that its not old fashiomed, the name Ava, just that its not very uncommon these days...congrats on having your little girl Smile

MammyH95 · 14/05/2014 01:46

Olivia?
