Silent lurker for about three months, but never posted before.

Four days ago I gave birth to our gorgeous DD. She really is a glorious little babe! Inbetween waiting for the whole world to fall out of my fanjo, for, despite the 12 stitches that feels like what is going to happen, salt baths and twice hourly breastfeeding sessions, we need to think of a name for our beautiful girl.

From 21 weeks, we thought I was giving birth to a Thea Eloise, but she is definitely not. Neither is she a Romilly Alice. Or a Madeleine. Ditto Phoebe. Confused

She is however, a glorious little babe, have I mentioned that already? All pouty lips, button nose, dark hair and big blue eyes. swoon And despite being a breast milk ninja, she has stolen our hearts already.

I have a strong suspicion she could be a Polly Alice, but DP is concerned that mil some people may think its a silly, indulgent name. (Not mil bashing, for the most part, she is great, but a dreadful snob!)

So, what I need from you are your best suggestions for a beautifully vintage, old fashioned or even slightly twee name. Out of the top twenty would be the ideal remit, but not a deal breaker.

Thank you so much in advance :)

I don't think you should give up on Thea. Babies don't look like anything! I'm worried you'll regret it down the line.

skinnyamericano · 13/05/2014 20:20

I love all of your names, and lots of the ones being suggested.

I will just add Lara, but really don't rush into changing your minds . Thea is a beautiful name and i think you may come back to it. Congratulations !

alita7 · 13/05/2014 20:27

What about Pollyanna Alice?

Or Alexandra/ Alexa? Elizabeth? Arabella? Clara? Just Millie? Harriet? Rebecca? Arwen? Sarah? Cassie? Katrina? Minnie? Rosie? Lydia? Marina?

I like Beatrix!!

I don't like Cecily but I like Cecilia or at a push Cecile?

MexicanSpringtime · 13/05/2014 20:30

Eleanor is my favourite name of the moment and I think goes with dark hair and blue eyes.
Ruth is also a long-time favourite and means true friend, which in my experience the Ruths of this world are.

stripedtortoise · 13/05/2014 20:35

I Love Polly Alice. Could you do Alice as a first name instead if you're wobbly about Polly? ;)

Spottybra · 13/05/2014 20:40

Keep Thea, its lovely. Or Theodora.
Polly Alice initials give a job. PA.
Alicia is nice.

How about Sabrina? Serena? Audrey? Ruby? Amelia?

walesybird70 · 13/05/2014 20:45

I met a really elegant lady last week who had long wavy dark brown hair and pretty blue eyes and she was called Violet. As soon as you said what baby looks like I thought of this lady.

burgatroyd · 13/05/2014 20:51

Met a baby Annie and I thought that was lovely!

Annie, just Annie!

burgatroyd · 13/05/2014 21:05

Marking my place.

ThisBitchIsResting · 13/05/2014 21:13

Beautiful names for what sounds like a beautiful baby, congratulations. Don't stew on it too long, I agree babies grow into their names! Just pick one you love and she will become it. And think of your poor mother needing to sort her Santa sack Grin

How are you pronouncing thea?

miffybun73 · 13/05/2014 21:39

Tess ?

Navybluetutu · 13/05/2014 21:43

Congratulations! Are you sure she won't grow into a Romilly or a Thea, or did I mention Romilly? Both gorgeous names, and haven't come across a Romilly. Take your time and go with your gut, she will become whatever name you decide. X

crumpet · 13/05/2014 21:45

Friends were convinced for months that a Thomas was going to be born, but as soon as he was they realised that he was not a Thomas , but another name entirely. Hope this reassures you!

devoncreamtea · 13/05/2014 21:46

Congrats! This happened to me - I thought I had an Isabel (11 yrs ago now) and she was actually a Meg.

Love Romilly - give it a minute?!! And Polly is sweet but not with Alice perhaps.

What about Tess/a, Anna, Maeve, Iris, Genevieve, Tabitha,

My middle name is Gwendolyn, quite like the spelling.

Kitty is lovely, don't think it matters that you're Kirsten, not obvious nn.

poocatcherchampion · 13/05/2014 21:47

Polly works perfectly well in the boardroom. And I should know :)

Not Polly Anna though or Alice.

And yes op - my mother always wanted a Polly but my older sister didn't look like one so the name waited for me. I've always loved my name.

morethanacondiment · 13/05/2014 21:47

Congratulations! And what lovely names you're thinking about Smile we nearly had a Thea last summer, but then she had dark hair and I was sure Thea was blonde and sunny, so she became Rosa instead (and is Posey most of the time, from Rosa-Posa).
Your sweet-sounding girl sounds like a Pearl to me?
Enjoy choosing!
