Hubby and I are going to try for another baby soon and as i always do i have started thinking of name.

For a boy we have decided on Rafe but I'm wondering if he should have a longer name like Rafferty(which I love) or Raphael or is Rafe a good enough name in it own right?

Regarding girls names I love Clementine but can't stand Clemmy is their any other nickname she could be called?

I also like Piper,Megan or Charlotte.

Thoughts please

Rafferty is nice I think Raphael might take a lot to carry off if you know what I mean. Clementine is lovely but don't shorten it, it's a nice name as it is.

I think Rafe is fine on it's own. I don't feel it is one of those names that is short for something.

I know a Clementine who goes by Emmie.

Rafe is a great name just as it is.

Clementine is lovely, Tina is a possible nn, but often you have no control over the nn your child uses Smile

Rafe is fine alone, but I disagree with what an above poster said about Raphael. You don't need to be a big personality for it, I know a very understated, quite shy 23 year old Raphael who suits his name spectacularly.

My Clementine is usually just Clementine, hoping she won't get Clemmy when she starts school. Met a ten year old Clementine who gets called Lemon or Tiny by her friends, which I think is adorable!

Wishfulmakeupping · 13/05/2014 07:39

Rafe is fab and like Charlotte for a girls option

PeaceLillyDoge · 13/05/2014 07:42

Lemon is such a cute nn for clementine!

tammytoby · 13/05/2014 10:18

I like Rafe/Ralph. Good solid, not overused name.

I like Clementine but really dislike Clem or Clemmy (reminds me of clammy) so perhaps better to avoid it if you feel the same way as there is a good chance that her friends may call her it.

I really like Charlotte!

devoncreamtea · 13/05/2014 10:29

My Son is a Rafe - GREAT name! I like the others, but to me Rafe felt more 'boys name' - I have 3 girls so I wanted the contrast. It means 'wolf' or 'counsel of wolves' and has a Norse origin. Quite cool I thought!

Like Charlotte, not as keen on Clementine, but I do suspect that both those names (infact any longish names) would tend to be shortened.

My girls names (Sisters of Rafe!) are Meg, Bess, Emma

(totally outing self here...!!)

Good luck with your future pregnancy!

I like Rafferty a lot and Raphael is okay but not keen on Rafe (isn't that also how some people pronounce Ralph?)

I like Piper and Charlotte from your girls' names. Megan and Clementine are okay but agree with you re Clemmy.

turdfairynomore · 13/05/2014 18:11

I like rafe but not Ralph pronounced Ralph. Also like Rafa. I teach 4 year old Imogen. She won't answer to "imi" but prefers mog!! Her choice-she suddenly "saw" it in her name one day! Phonics has a lot to answer for! (And it suits her as she's mad about cats!!!)
