Jake or Joel ???

Have been really impressed with DP's name choices aso I have put him in charge of son's name.
The shortlist is now Jake and Joel.
When I've mentioned it to people, the general consensus is how great Jake is...but Joel seems to get a thumbs down.
I love them both but know a few Jakes through DCs but don't know any Joels so think I'd prefer the latter.
What are your opinions ?

Personally, Joel. I know so many Jakes

MrsCharlesBrandon · 08/05/2014 19:17

I have a Joel that was going to be a Jake before he was born (didn't look like a Jake).

I love both, but on reflection prefer Joel!

I like both but if I didn't have a friend called Joel it could have made our shortlist, Jake wasn't even considered.

Bowlersarm · 08/05/2014 19:20

Joel, definitely.

Surf25 · 08/05/2014 19:22

Joel. Probably would have been the name we gave dd2 if had been a ds!

DogCalledRudis · 08/05/2014 20:38

Joel. Too many Jakes around

jaykay34 · 09/05/2014 07:39

Thanks all....the responses have been a real change to the pro-Jake comments i've had from family and friends.
I'm glad there is some appreciation for the name Joel !
Spoke to DP about it and I think we are just going to see what he looks like !
Thanks again for the responses...definitely food for thought !!

I prefer jake

RiverTam · 09/05/2014 09:34

Joel.

I like Jacob but hate Jake.

maggiethemagpie · 09/05/2014 20:57

I'm another one voting for Joel. I don't like Jake - I think it had its heyday in the 90s.

Nordicmom · 09/05/2014 21:00

Joel all the way :) my brother's Joel

onlyjoking9329 · 09/05/2014 21:08

Joel, my DS is Elliot Joel, he's never had anyone at school with either name.
I can't help but think of tweenies when I hear Jake.

flopsy1974 · 10/05/2014 07:46

Joel is a lovely name and not overpopular. Not keen on Jake at all.

Theonlyoneiknow · 10/05/2014 15:08

Jake for me, Joel,is a bit 'wet'

Matilda03 · 10/05/2014 16:06

Definitely Joel. And it's Biblical so doesn't really date whereas Jake will (has already started to?) Lots of 'naughty' Jakes in schools as well!

Redmasseyinmydrive · 10/05/2014 20:37

Tbh I don't really like either. I would choose Jake before Joel.

TheHorseHasBolted · 11/05/2014 11:36

I like Joel better but think about whether it will bug you if people don't pronounce it how you wanted. I pronounce it with two syllables (Joe-ul) but I know people who pronounce it with one (Jole, rhymes with pole) so whichever you prefer, don't choose it if it is going to drive you mad every time you hear someone pronounce it the other way!

Squirm · 11/05/2014 11:49

I prefer Jake, but would put Jacob on the BC.

TickleMyTitsTillFriday · 11/05/2014 11:52

I have a Jacob but don't like Jake (thankfully neither does he) I wanted to call him Luca or Leo. One day I might convince him to change it...

I vote Joel :)

ThatBloodyWoman · 11/05/2014 11:55

I love both, but Joel just pips Jake to the post.
