Hi I am trying to decide between the following:
Madeleine or Olivia

2nd name Grace -

Any thoughts most appreciated :)

Both are lovely but I'd probably go for Madeleine as Olivia is very popular right now and might become a bit of a generational name whereas Madeleine is a classic.

I think Madeleine is beautiful. It has been underused, because of the Madeleine McCann case, but I think it feels right again now.

Olivia.

Madeleine is lovely but I hate Maddy.

I think both are as popular as each other (I know of 3 Maddys but no Olivias).

I prefer Madeleine, but it's a name I have a blind spot about spelling (mix up 'e's and 'a's for no good reason).

Madeleine, gorgeous.

Snoopy10 · 06/05/2014 09:51

Thank you - so helpful. I love Madeleine but was worried about connotations with the missing girl. Olivia is very pretty but seems to be in all top 10 lists, however I only know one Olivia and no Madeleines - so I like them both.

If you love it, use it! my feel is that enough time has passed.

funnyoldonion · 06/05/2014 10:53

Olivia is overdone, Madeleine is beautiful, I also love the books!

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 06/05/2014 11:18

Lovely names, hard to choose, how nice to see Madeleine being considered.

How do the initials MG and OG work with your surname? Any unfortunate acronyms?

Snoopy10 · 06/05/2014 11:38

Good point about acronyms - both ok. Yes I think enough time has passed, and it is hard to avoid all pitfalls! We have a French surname so Madeleine would go well.

How about Madeleine Olivia Grace? Then you get to use all three lovely names?
