What do you think? It is a family name, but I had never really considered it until I mentioned it in passing to DH - and he said he liked it!

I don't think I've ever met any (family members aside!) - have you? What are your perceptions of the name?

We have a very common surname, so name needs to be a little unusual...

Lovely name!

imme · 28/04/2014 10:24

Great classic name

Kantha · 28/04/2014 10:27

I like it, and it sounds like a good option with your surname. The only one I know is a former boss of my DH. Don't know any little Marcus's.

Mildpanic · 28/04/2014 10:38

Yes, really like it!

Amethyst975 · 28/04/2014 10:50

My brother is called Marcus, now in his mid 30s. He was definitely the only one at school, and even now, I don't think either of us have personally met another Marcus, although it would occasionally come up on TV or in books.

Interestingly, I don't think it has ever been shortened to Marc/Mark, not even by his buddies.

I think you should go for it! Smile It's a nice name that is uncommon but not wacky!

NinjaLeprechaun · 28/04/2014 11:21

I've personally known two Marcus's (Marcuses? Marcusii? Hmm) Neither is currently a child, although one was when I knew him and the name was never 'too big' for him. He went by Marcus always, even when he was very small, the other one shortened his name to Marc (which I like as well).

I love it, it's on our shortlist!

The only 2 things that put me off ever so slightly are:

  1. someone once said it sounds like mucus??!

  2. our sure is Aldcock and someone said it would mean MAldcock - mauled cock??!! Though very much doubt that is a problem for you?!
And sorry to hijack your tread, but does anyone see that as a potential problem for us??

Keepthechangeyoufilthyanimal · 28/04/2014 13:25

Love it! Was on our short list until DHs stepbrother & wife used it for their DC2 a few months back.

TheCharWoman · 28/04/2014 13:42

Thanks everyone , wow that's unusually unanimous! Will defin add it to the short list. It is really growing on me.

MakeUp - I wouldn't have thought of it , but now you've sad it I can't 'unsee' it if you know what I mean! Tricky. It's not a problem we have exactly , but we do have to avoid the letter N to avoid creating little NOBs!

It's DS2s name :)

MakeUpVirgin · 28/04/2014 13:48

Thanks!

I think it is a fab name and the 2 silly reasons mentioned above do not put me off using it.

I know of one little Marcus who is 5.

Have you thought of middle names?

DorothyBastard · 28/04/2014 13:58

Lovely name.

Britchic · 28/04/2014 18:58

Love it, and have never thought of it as mucus!

I like it, very manly.

Appletini · 29/04/2014 07:52

I love it. In fact I just went: oh my gosh, why did I never notice how lovely this name is?!

Pebbles0934 · 01/05/2014 10:47

I know 3 and I live in a small village, one is 30's, one is 11 and the other 8. They all go by the full Marcus and not shortened...
