Hi, had my 12 week scan with my first (dps 4th) yesterday and all is well so now I have given myself permission to post about names properly :)

We think it's a girl from the nub, bicarb test, side of implantation etc but may be wrong so are obviously looking at names for both genders.
I've done a lot of name research through out my life as I've always been interested, so I think it's unlikely anything has not been noticed BUT I would still like suggestions just in case, especially as something might feel different now :)

So can anyone think of any other names based on our short list- dp doesn't want to decide for sure until babies born but even so, we have names we like but only one I would be 100% happy with for a girl which luckily he decided he now does like after saying no at 4 or 5 weeks :P

Short list:

Girl:
Lydia (the one dp has come round to)
Olivia ( so I can shorten it to Libby as I can't have Elizabeth)
Beatrice
maybe Petra

Boy:
Michael
John
Max(imus)
Cohen (we are Terry Prachett fans)

Names we can't use due to family/ friends:

Anything beginning or ending in 'el' or 'ella'
Clara
Kara
Erica
Kiera
Mia
Alice
Evelyn
Luke
Isaac
Christopher
Jacob
Alexander
James

Names I like that Dp has vetoed:

Freya
Ariarna
Julia/ette
Katrina
Imogen
Rose
Caleb
Kit
Toby
Ralph
Rowan
Jack

Livia -- less popular than Olivia (though I love Olivia too) and you could still use Libby as a nn.

Isobel could have Libby as a nn, at a stretch..
Same with Abigail maybe, and names like Lillian or Lily with a middle name beginning with B.
Lillian Beatrice or Lily Beatrice ---> Libby?

I love Beatrice too, but am not keen on Lydia. 'Lid' just isn't an attractive syllable imo.

Wishfulmakeupping · 27/04/2014 17:45

I like lydia from your girls list do you like Katherine nn kitty?
Not overly keen on your boys list have you considered Arthur or Henry

soontobeslendergirl · 27/04/2014 19:10

Sylvia
Vanessa
Vivienne

Logan
Daniel
Miles
Marcus

I went to school with a Petra. Now I think it is cool, but back then she was known as 'Poo Truck'.

Sorry, not helpful. I should know better having a daughter named after spreadable butter.

SpawningSalmon · 27/04/2014 19:38

Another vote for Vivienne though. Gorgeous name. So cool and elegant for when she gets older.

BikeRunSki · 27/04/2014 19:41

How is "Libby" a nn of "Olivia"?

MicrochipsAndMemories · 27/04/2014 19:43

Lucinda?

mathanxiety · 27/04/2014 19:50

Libby was always a nn for Olivia. You drop the O and the last A and substitute a B for the V and tada!

It's more obvious than Libby for Elizabeth imo.

Noforasking · 27/04/2014 19:56

Dominic?

BikeRunSki · 27/04/2014 20:03

Ok. Stand corrected. An awful lot of dropping and substituting. A bit like saying Olive is a nn of Alice if you replace the A with an O and the C with a V.

At least Elizabeth has a b in it!

alex7149 · 27/04/2014 20:34

The reason we thought Libby for Olivia is that I love libby but can't use Elizabeth due to the names of dps older dsds and I don't like using just nicknames. Would think about isobel but steering clear of the syllable 'el'. Also for me V's and B's are quite interchangeable as Spanish is my second language and in Spanish a v is pronounced as a b.

Livia maybe but it sounds like it needs a preceeding letter :p

I liked the idea or lily Beatrice but lily is one of his exes names so he vetoed that!

sorry I don't like any of the boy names except maybe Dominic, will think on that one, Henry was the name of a boy who bullied me at school :S

alita7 · 27/04/2014 21:25

Sorry everyone, it changed my name without me telling it to by the looks of things- I never changed it to alex7149, which is a username for something else, unless my baby brain put the wrong thing in or something???

Oh dear. Anyway alex7149 was me alita :)

Ariarna isn't a name.

Arianna is lovely though.

alita7 · 27/04/2014 22:28

Ariarna is a name, Google it. I like the pronunciation ari arr nah. but don't like ari ah nah.

It is irrelevant though as dp had vetoed it :(
