Middle name for Sam

IamMrsElf · 23/04/2014 11:55

After much deliberation DH and I have settled on Sam for DS3 but have no ideas on middle names. Any ideas?

We can't have any names beginning with B, F, J, A, I or U because of clashes with surname and existing DS.

Please all help!

Middle names are a bit pointless really, aren't they? They're not really used for anything, but all the same we gave them to our boys just because people do. We used family names - names of grandfathers. I don't see why you can't have the same middle initial as your existing DSs unless their first names also begin with S (which they may do, but I'd think that was more of a problem).

Charles or Christopher. David or Darius. Edward or Ewan. George or Gareth. Henry or Hugo. Kenneth or Keir. Laurence or Lachlan. Michael or Marcus. Nicholas or Nathan. Oscar or Oliver. Philip or Patrick. Quentin or Quinn. Richard or Robert. Stephen or Sebastian. Thomas or Theodore. Vincent or Vaughan. William or Walter. Xavier or Xerxes. Yves or Yian. Zachary or Zoltan. (Andrew or Arthur. Benedict or Boris. Francis or Frederick. Ivan or Ichabod. Joseph or James. Uther or Ulf.)

There's two for each letter of the alphabet that you can use. (And for good measure, two for each that you can't).

Our whole family have the same first initial, we have indeed made a rod for our own backs, thus a middle name is a good idea.

Middle names are a bit pointless but fun, I think, so I was going for something a bit more unusual, especially as Sam is such a 'safe' first name.

My mum likes Hendrix or Dexter. Digby has been mentioned. I like Logan and Hugo but DH says no.

DS1 keeps calling the bump Thomas, which I love but it is also DBs name - I don't have a problem with that but everyone else seems to Hmm Confused

Thanks for all the suggestions so far, I will run them by DH.

Agree that middle names are pretty pointless. I don't have a middle name and have never ever missed not having one. As long as your child's name is not too common (e.g. John Smith or Sam Jones) then you don't really need a middle name for identification purposes.

rachel234 · 24/04/2014 14:41

How about Dexter or Hendrix as first names? Personally I love them both and find them more interesting and identifiable than Sam.

A friend named her son Samuel Reuben (although he is known as Sam).

PS I used to know a Samuel Joseph too (also known as Sam)
