Reminds me of northern Exposure (which I loved!) as that's where I first heard it as a name. I love it though it may be a bit too like your other dd's middle name.

Since it's a herb/plant, perhaps you could look for inspiration there, eg Aster (not related to cicely as a plant but such a cool plant name!).

I've never understood why Cicely and Cecily are so rare. They almost never appear on top 300 lists, even from back in the 70s and 80s.

I think they're the holy grail of names that everyone knows but nobody uses!

Great name, we know both, one is 16 & the other 14. My great aunt was a Cecily, born around 1906.

I like it, tho would think if you are ruling out cecily because you've already used it then cicely would also be rules out, as it's basically the same name!

It's my preferred name for dc4 if a girl! DH to be convinced. I'm liking Cicely Rose.

Cicely is much nicer than Celia/Cecilia/Cecily. I think there was one in the Chalet School.

DH has an aunt Cicely. Hadn't heard of it until I met her and have never met any since. His aunt is in her 70s.

i really would love to use cecily . it was my favourite name for dd5 . in the end we chose dh's preffered name but changed it to a compromise name when she was a few months old .
we used cecily as her mn becuse being 43 at the time we thought are baby naming days were over . Now 4 years on we very unexpectedly have the chance to reuse it . i would love to use but don't want to "steal " dd5's mn iyswim for this baby hence the idea of using cicely or cecilia .

Love it. It's becoming steadily more popular as it is such a lovely name.

I think it's really pretty. It was my mum's name, though, and she always hated it and lacked the courage to say she was going to go by her middle name instead. She didn't like the fact that everyone always said the name wrong never mind spelling it wrong.

I think if you live it, it's fine to use it in that case! Your new DD will live with it as her frat name for the rest of her life, she won't be worried that she shares it with her sister's middle name, surely.?

Prefer Cicely to Cecily. 'Cess' is not a great syllable. Don't see an issue with the mn, because it's not a run-of-the-mill name. If it were Jane, then your dd might feel you were being a bit half-hearted and unimaginative by just using another dd's mn, but not with Cicely/Cecily.
