She wasn't very nice. It was St Clare's-"sour milk Prudence". It's a cat's name.

Jellaby · 18/04/2014 00:10

Prude as a nickname isn't good.

Ludways · 18/04/2014 00:21

One of my roomies at uni has a sister prudence, she is stunningly beautiful and a very highly paid model in South Florida, she gets Pru.

gilliangoof · 18/04/2014 00:27

It's different. I don't like it very much.

alita7 · 18/04/2014 00:54

i picture a very stuck up little snob!

I really like it. It's on my list. But grew up knowing someone who makes it seem a cool name.

TotallyFoxed · 18/04/2014 02:03

And the meaning has undertones of 'good judgement' as well as 'cautious'. Neither are bad things!

LastOneDancing · 18/04/2014 02:18

I love Prudence, Patience and Constance!

mathanxiety · 18/04/2014 06:42

It's a lot to ask a child to carry off imo.

Lj8893 · 18/04/2014 06:49

It makes me think of Charmed. Her nn was Pru which is quite nice.

pumpkinsweetie · 18/04/2014 06:58

One thought sums this name up: prude.

TotallyFoxed · 18/04/2014 09:06

Ooh I love Patience.

Given the wide variety of names in use today children seem to just take them in their stride. In 15+ years teaching in a state secondary school I've only ever known one child be bullied because of their name and it was a completely 'normal' name (think Michael Smith) but it happened to be the same as a criminal in a scandalous news story at the time. I've encountered many, many names that would cause raised eyebrows yet the kids never seem to bat an eyelid! So I wouldn't worry about a name being a burden unless it was something overtly ridiculous like Fanny.

HolyDrinker · 18/04/2014 09:08

Love it! And Constance too. Patience is probably a little too much to live up too.

Bowlersarm · 18/04/2014 09:09

I don't like it. It's an ugly name.

HolyDrinker · 18/04/2014 09:09

SimplySara · 18/04/2014 09:28

I think it is a lovely name. Plus there is a built in lullaby with the Beatles "Dear Prudence"

Sundaedelight · 18/04/2014 09:39

It's a super choice, it's known but not (over-)used at all. Florence had a similar reaction many moons ago and now it's a hot name. Prudence may be too sophisticated for some but I think it's lovely.

cuppachai · 18/04/2014 09:41

Just makes me think of 'nuts in May' Grin

squoosh · 18/04/2014 10:33

Prudence is one heck of an ugly name. And when I say ugly, I mean ugly.

Lj8893 · 18/04/2014 10:37

It does make me think of a cat. I can imagine a Disney cat being called prudence.

Driveway · 18/04/2014 10:39

It makes me think of that book about using a potty.

WhoKnowsWhereTheChocolateGoes · 18/04/2014 10:41

Prude.

funnyoldonion · 18/04/2014 15:11
