Is this name just too popular? Or is it still a very pretty name. Thanks.

I am in this quandary. I love the name :)

squoosh · 17/04/2014 11:18

It's super duper popular, I know so many of them. I think it does still sound quite fresh and pretty now but in 20 years time it will seem very dated and of its time.

Lilliana · 17/04/2014 11:19

My dd is Lily - ummed and ahhed but it was one of very few names we both loved so went with it. Not met another yet but she does have lots of tilly and milly friends!

TKKW · 17/04/2014 11:44

beautiful but very pretty. im in my early 30s and when i was a school, there were so many girls called Rachel. Popular because its lovely. Same for lily. Im actually having this issue with Olivia. Go for it of you love it!

JimmyCorkhill · 17/04/2014 11:50

Love this name. Couldn't use it as we have a surname ending in y and it didn't go Sad

I don't know any Lilies (!) near me and I'm well entrenched in the baby and pre schooler world.

FizzyBoobly · 17/04/2014 11:55

We were going to go with Lily until we spotted Lilia on a baby name list. Gives DD the choice of shortening it to Lily if she wishes

LemonBreeland · 17/04/2014 11:59

I have a Lily! It is crazy popular at the minute. I didn't realise until after we named her as it was a last minute decision.

I wouldn't use it right now despite the fact that it is a beautiful name.

manicinsomniac · 17/04/2014 13:10

I don't think it's as common as you think. Yes, it's the most popular name (if you combine all the spellings it easily beats Amelia) but, with all the thousands of names out there, that still only means there tends to be one or two in a class, it's not like every child is called Lily.

ImATotJeSuisUneTot · 17/04/2014 13:16

Have you thought about Lillian as a formal name with Lily as NN?

WeeClype · 17/04/2014 13:27

I used it as my DD's middle name as I couldn't decide between 2 names that I liked.

Fruityflapjack · 17/04/2014 13:32

My DD is Lillian. Her nn is Lilly. It was my grandmothers name and I always wanted it if I had a DD.

We were in a bit of a quandary about using it as Lilly was in the top 10 of names last year. However, I still love the name and so does my DH so we went with it.

We have met one other Lilly so far.

I disagree about it dating I think it's a bit timeless personally, but even if I'm wrong, it's still a beautiful nam Smile

alita7 · 17/04/2014 13:33

if you're worried about popularity what about Liliarna Lilith or lyla?

squoosh · 17/04/2014 13:37

I think it's a lovely name but I don't think it's timeless. Timeless names are ones that are used throughout the decades, whereas I'd guess 95% of Lilly's in the UK are either over 80 or under 8.

RoseberryTopping · 17/04/2014 13:41

I like it. Doesn't really matter how popular it is if it feels right for you.

molly84 · 17/04/2014 13:53

Thanks everyone x

It is very popular but so lovely. I would have named DD this but my friend beat me to it.

MissUumellmahaye · 17/04/2014 15:46

It's beautiful, but dear lord it's popular.

ApocalypseNowt · 17/04/2014 15:49

Off the top of my head i can think of 4 Lily's. Very popular round here - it would put me off. Depends how much you like the name i guess.

Alisvolatpropiis · 17/04/2014 20:31

Popular is not always bad. And popular in 2014 doesn't mean the same as it did in 1974. Nowhere near as many children will have the "most popular" name now as they didn then becaus people are far more adventurous with their name choices now.

Lily is very pretty.

Dollydots · 18/04/2014 19:04

It's beautiful and names are popular for a reason, it's a name that will age well.

ILoveYouBaby · 18/04/2014 19:07

love it. It's my dd's middle name.

Theonlyoneiknow · 18/04/2014 20:05

I love it, only know of one
