Where do we stand on Finn?

DC2 due in July, sex unknown but I'm presuming a boy as already have DS.

I don't really like any boys names, except DS's name and I knew the minute I found out I was pregnant with him that he would be a boy and that's what we'd call him.

I like Finn, it's the only boys name DH and I agree on he wants to call him Stanley or Jackson, not happening and I think it goes well with DS's name which is classic, top 20 but not hugely popular. I don't want to use Finlay, Finley, Finton etc....

All the threads that I've searched for on here that mention Finn say it's very popular but they all seem to be from 2008/9. I know it's not the rarest name but is it really that popular where you live? Do you like the name? We live in South as South can be England, if that makes a difference.

If it is that popular or you hate it, what names could you recommend? Our surname is two syllables and quite harsh sounding.

It's quite popular round here, don't know why though, I think it's awful.

I used to really like it until I met one and he was an idiot. Put me off a bit, though the rational part of me still says it's a great name.

Makes me think of Finbar Saunders an his double entendres.

I like it, but I think it sounds unfinished as a stand alone name, it really needs to be short for something.

I think it's cool. I prefer Finn to Finley as there's less spelling queries but that's my own weird criteria.

Finn seems like it is short for something else to me, rather than a "proper" name. Not bad though. What about Flynn?

I don't know who Finbar Saunders is, I'm assuming someone rubbish though if he's known for double entendres?

How about Finnegan or Finnian?

Finnian would soften a harh surname more than the straigt forward Finn and less comon than Finley etc.

There was a man named Michael Finnegan, he grew whiskers on his chinnegan...

There's a boy called Finn in DD's class who we'd love to stand on. He's a challenging child.

I like the name though.

I can understand people not liking it if they know a kid called it who they don't like, but that's true of any name isn't it?

I hate it. And any variation of it. It's not a very attractive name. It's also like the stereotypical/ubiquitous 'Noughties' boys name. I know several.

I know three Finns and they are all hyperactive little f***rs.
Two in Dd's class before we moved school and they were awful, to me it will always be a naughty boys name, but if you like it, go for it.

I have a 1 year old Finn and it's perfect for him. He's our Finn, Finny, fatty Finn, skinny Finny, finnilicious and so it goes. We have an unusual 3 syllable surname- it goes well.

NOT JACKSON!! there has been an influx of Jackson's in my area recently and if it's a trend here then it's fucking had it!

I like Rudy - but I know it's a bit off the wall. I think Finn is just fine too.

I know two Fin/Finns and they are both lovely. They both 7/8 and I've not heard of any at school in the younger years, so I'd say its not over popular/common at the minute.

I sympathise, we struggled with boys names, we gave DS our favourite names as first and middle names and then we couldn't think of any other we liked or agreed on. In the end we had a girl, if DD had been a boy she'd probably still not have a name!
