Maxime?

We live in France so have chosen the name Maxime for our DS1 who is due in a week. I just wanted to check that it's not too weird for English tastes - ie that there isn't a serial killer with same name that I haven't heard of or the main character in some programme that I've never seen! I've been away from England for quite a few years now so I'm a bit out of the loop...
Thanks!

Not weird. You will, however, get a gazillion people thinking your child's name is actually Maxine.

Not strange at all

sleepy78 · 09/04/2014 10:38

Mmmm.. Hadn't thought of that.
The alternative is Maxence...
Either way, he'll end up being Max most of the time!

Made me think of Maxim! The magazine full of naked women!

sleepy78 · 09/04/2014 11:49

Oh dear Baileys - that's less good! Is it very well known? I've never heard of it....

I was charging in to say that 'unless you're French or live in France it sounds really pretentious'. But you do live in France so I think it's great!

Maxim Magazine is indeed high on the tits and ass factor but my first thought was of Maxim de Winter. Similar to the magazine in that he was both a tit and an ass.

Maxime definitely better than Maxence.

I don't think it is massively known, I just know my brother and his friends used to read it! Confused not as big as FHM.
It is a nice name though!
I love Maxie but it didn't go with our surname.

I know of a French boy with this name but he spells it Maxim. I didn't know it could have a final E.

I like the name and think it could easily survive the magazine association.

The only character I'm familiar with is Madame Maxime in Harry Potter.

sleepy78 · 09/04/2014 17:11

Thanks everyone, that's quite positive so far!
We will probably stay in France so the English side is perhaps less important anyway.
Polonius - I didn't know it could be spelt without the e - I'll look it up in my baby book Smile
