Hi everyone

What are your thoughts of Andrea? DH and I both love Andi too as a nn. Also we were debating over the pronunciation. An-dree-ah or An-dray-ah?

I quite like it, was quite popular but you don't hear it so much now. The second pronunciation made me smile....An-dray-ah.....reminds me of Meryl Streep in The Devil Wears Prada, might be difficult to get people to use that version, i think most would pronounce the first way.

Sharaluck · 07/04/2014 23:53

I think pronounce the first way too.

I really like Andi :)

jazzyjenbo · 07/04/2014 23:57

My mums name, love it, shes andie x

Oriunda · 08/04/2014 07:53

I pronounce it An-Dray-ah (it's a male name in Italy and that's the way it's pronounced).

meditrina · 08/04/2014 08:00

An-dray-ah = European boy

An-dree-ah = British girl (like Redfern, one of the classic Saturday night partners of Sir Bruce)

HoneyandRum · 08/04/2014 10:53

She will have to tell people how to pronounce it her whole life.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 08/04/2014 13:26

Hmm. Not a very attractive name I'd say! Sorry.

Broen · 08/04/2014 13:27

I like it.

yesnoyesnoyesno · 08/04/2014 13:31

I work with two male Andreas. Never met a female one. (Though it is obv a female name.)

bruffin · 08/04/2014 13:34

My sis is Andrea (an-dree-ah) but it was chosen because we are half greek and we all have anglicized greek names, although in greek it would be pronounced an-dray-ah

squoosh · 08/04/2014 14:37

I have a friend called Andrea and she pronounces it Ann-dray-a. I quite like it, you'll be ahead of the pack!

rosielrh2 · 08/04/2014 20:10

I teach an 11 yo Andrea (always An-dree-ah to anyone that meets her) at first I thought it was a strange name for a young girl but now I can appreciate it's a nice sound. She's never had a nickname-apart from a few other children calling her 'Ange' which isn't very nice!

Seminyak · 08/04/2014 20:35

I know one who pronounces it one way and one who pronounces it the other. I just pronounce their name however their name is pronounced.... People shouldn't have a problem with it surely??

Dreya · 10/04/2014 00:35

Andrea is a great name. I prefer And-ray-a/Dreya Wink

MyPetMonsterAndMe · 11/04/2014 03:48

My sister is an Andrea who goes almost exclusively by Andi. I don't live in the UK (Canadian) but she is an An-dree-ah and had never had anyone pronounce it differently.
