Middle name for Isaac

Think we will be going with Isaac if baby is a boy - my only reservation is it is very popular at the moment but dp is not being swayed by any of my 'weird' suggestions (Amos, Idris...) We like middle names to be family names but can't really find a family name that goes with Isaac. Main options at the moment:

Isaac Andrew (name on both sides, my grandfather who I never met, dp's father's middle name)
Isaac Nathaniel (I liked Nathaniel for a first name and it is apparently a family name way back on dp's side but much more tenuous connection)

Also considered but probably less in the running:
Isaac Hayden
Isaac James (too much mixing of old and new testament according to dp!)
Isaac Ernest (dp thinks a bit silly!)

At the moment I am swaying towards Isaac Nathaniel as think it sounds nicer but Andrew is probably a more meaningful name to me. Opinions gratefully received!

Isaac is a great name. Like Andrew and James for middle names too but not keen on your others.
Isaac Christopher
Isaac William
Isaac Alexander
Isaac Laurence

I like Andrew or James.

George or Edward would also work well as middle names for Isaac.

MrsT2007 · 07/04/2014 13:19

We have Isaac Lawrence after his great grandad

Isaac Nathaniel sounds great. I think it works better with a longer name.

My first thought was Isaac Benjamin.

Isaac Sebastian
Isaac Christopher

Thanks, I worried that Isaac Andrew sounds a bit like 'I's a candrew' - also if you shortened both could be Ike Andy (Eye candy - maybe am overthinking???)

Does it really matter if a middle name is longer/ shorter than first name, sounds better, etc.? I never say my 2 DCs first and middle names together. Go with the one with most meaning to you. Isaac Andrew sounds great.

S

Ham69 · 07/04/2014 13:28

Not sure what happened there with 'S'. My phone is playing up. FWIW, most boys and men I know have the middle name James.

runningonwillpower · 07/04/2014 13:29

Why do people have middle names?

Not joking. Why? I struggled with the middle name thing because I felt they had to have one.

But unless there is a family connection and in the words of my brother-in-law, 'what's the point?'.

Mrst2007 - I also considered Isaac Lawrence after a friend who passed away, but know dp will never entertain it. Good name!

Yes, I agree I do not see the point of middle names unless they have some significance - that's why I wanted a family name (all the ones listed are family names!)

Isaac James or Isaac Andrew, I think the Andrew would be lovely considering the significance too. Over thinking name sound!

jumblebee · 07/04/2014 15:40

From your list I really like Isaac Andrew and Isaac James Smile

Tuesday11 · 07/04/2014 15:47

I love Isaac Nathaniel!

busyprocrastinating · 07/04/2014 15:51

We had this same dilemma and went with Isaac James as James was dh grandfather. We were still debating on the way to the registry office.

CleverOl10 · 08/04/2014 00:14

Isaac Nathanial is nice but I am definitely from the school of thought that a midde name should mean something ie be after someone special or important. My son has my brothers name for MN and ds2 will have DHs brothers name for MN. We are also thinking about Isaac - he would be Isaac Adam.

Sharaluck · 08/04/2014 00:16

I really like the sound and significance of Isaac Andrew :)

grizzabellia · 08/04/2014 09:55

Thanks all, I'm surprised actually as thought Isaac Nathaniel would be front runner but seems people like Isaac Andrew too - I was a bit worried about it not sounding quite right! Thinking might go for Isaac Andrew after all as it does have more significance, which is the point of middle name.
