Joshua?

After considering many more unusual names, DH and I seem to be settling on Joshua. While reasonably popular (according to the ONS), we think it's a lovely, classic name that will grow with him. I was surprised that it is almost never mentioned on mumsnet, though! What do you think? Do you like the name?

The only other that's still in the running is Zachary, but I worry this is a bit faddy.

No other suggestions, please, but would love your views on Joshua.

Love it, love it, love it! SmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmileSmile

My fave boy name!

Much prefer Zachary. I just feel a bit 'meh' about Joshua - I don't actually mind it but I guess because I know so many and hear it shouted in parks a lot!

It's ok but prefer Zachary.

Joshua was v popular about ten years ago. Inoffensive.
Much prefer Zachary.

I love the name Joshua, I can't use it as someone in the family has beaten me to it with one of their DC's.

I do like Zachary but there are about 4 Zac/Zak/Zacharys in the DC's (fairly small) pre-school already.

I love it, was top of our boys list before we knew DD was a girl and if we ever have a boy it will definitely be his name.

Chloerose75 · 06/04/2014 13:52

Joshua is much nicer than Zachary. I really like Joshua. A lovely name and even though it's popular I agree it's quite classic/consistently popular rather than faddy. I don't think there will be loads of them in classes at school these days compared to the current trendy names.

Much prefer Zachary, never really liked Joshua or Josh.

Bowlersarm · 06/04/2014 14:53

I like Joshua. Think I prefer it to Zachary, but I don't dislike that either.

Breezy1985 · 06/04/2014 14:59

I prefer Zachary, there are 8 boys in my DD's class and 4 of them are Joshua.

BackforGood · 06/04/2014 15:13

Love the name Joshua.
Was one of seemingly only about 4 boys names that were used for todays 16 - 20 yr olds, but seems to have lots it's 'overuse' now.
Nice - easy to spell, no difficulties with pronunciation, No nickname issues. Ticks all my boxes Smile

CruCru · 06/04/2014 16:15

Joshua is a lovely name.

soontobeslendergirl · 06/04/2014 16:25

Don't mind Joshua but hate Josh and I like Jacob but hate Jake. The only similar one I like is Jonah as I like Joe too.

Zachary/Zac etc not keen either :(

soontobeslendergirl · 06/04/2014 16:26

oh, and it is mentioned a lot on Mumsnet - to be fair probably more in the suggested names rather than posters asking what do people think of it category.

Lesleythegiraffe · 06/04/2014 16:38

Both Joshua and Josh are very, very popular at the moment.

Not overkeen on either tbh as we have two awful Joshuas in our school at the moment!

MrsBungle · 06/04/2014 16:39

I much prefer Zachary.
