Which names do you love that get a bad reception on Mumsnet? And did/would you use them?

Personally I love Kyle. The three I know are lovely and I think it has a nie sound. I probably wouldn't use it myself, but only because there are other names I love more.

My mum has synesthesia so we had to make sure the 'colours' of our name choices didn't clash with our surname.

AllDirections · 03/04/2014 20:20

Tigerlily, Harmony, Liberty

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 03/04/2014 20:22

Dunno about MN but these were all laughed at irl and I didn't use them:

Posy
Thaddeus
Melody
Barnaby

I also really like the following and doubt they'd be v popular, either with Mn or my dp!

Ross
Scott
Bram and Bramwell
Terence
Julian
Roland
Jeremy
Timothy

I love Joan, Doshusallie. With Joanie as a nickname.

I also love Bridie (my grannie's name) and Fidelma but everyone shrieks at them! Grin

I wanted to call DS2 Atticus but DH said no :(

TheGrassIsSinging · 03/04/2014 20:24

Loveday and Queenie are fabulous@Pleasenomorepeppa

I agree Biance is a nice name.

CareBearWithFangs · 03/04/2014 20:26

I love Dickon and Bramwell too.

Nataleejah · 03/04/2014 20:26

KYLE!!!!
Was one of name choice for my DS3.
Bad reception on here.
Also here seems a genuine dislike for KEVIN

RiverTam · 03/04/2014 20:26

not going to actual name it as it will out me, but DD's name and middle name, and the combination of both, are regularly dissed on MN as being too common/popular. Still a beautiful name and I love it.

WutheringFrights · 03/04/2014 20:28

I asked the MN Jury about a boys name when we were expecting DC1 in 2011. Pretty much everyone on the thread slated it.

DC1 was a girl, DC2 born 9 months ago was a boy and we named him 'the name that everyone slated'.

We have only had one negative response since he was born and that was a friend of DH's dad who asked what his middle names were and said 'at least he can choose one of those when he is older!' Shock

I am so glad that I didn't listen to the critics as I love the name we chose and the reasons we chose it.

I don't want to say what it is on this post as I am pretty identifiable because of it and I don't want to be outed ... but my username gives a pretty good clue!! Grin

I remember that thread,WurheringFrights.

Girls: Greta, Joy and Lyra
Boys: Stig and Jago

SabsFabulous · 03/04/2014 20:32

I love the name Kayla which is considered quite chavvy on MN!

SanityClause · 03/04/2014 20:33

I was talked out of using Maude when I was pregnant with DD1. "You can't call a baby that!". (That was when I realised you shouldn't discuss names with anyone except your partner, before the birth.)

WutheringFrights · 03/04/2014 20:35

RabbitPies Did you post on it...were you for or against?! Grin

RabbitPies · 03/04/2014 20:40

I liked the shortened version ,but not so much the full name but I love it now. Excellent choice, and I'm not just saying that, because I am brutally honest on the baby names forum.

Oh, Maud(e) is a lovely name.

I really like Jocasta, but it's become a joke.

TheRaniOfYawn · 03/04/2014 20:44

I also really want Hilda to become fashionable again. Or Hilde at the very least.

Vince I just love it. Would never be able to use it.

RabbitPies · 03/04/2014 21:02

If I had a baby boy right now,I'd name him Ivor. I love that name so much, but I suspect that it wouldn't be terribly popular on Mumsnet.
