Heard this name today and think it is gorgeous! I think it can be short for Hepzibah...which I don't like!

What do you think? I also like Effie but I don't think it sounds great with our surname as it has an f sound in it!

It was short for Hepzibah in Silas Marner I think.
Could be short for Euphemia or Elizabeth at a stretch.
Effie might be too close to effing.

When we were growing up we used it as "don't have an eppie" (as in epileptic fit so that's what I would associate with the name.

I like effie though agree with the 'effing thing.

First thoughts: Epilepsy and Epi-pen. Really not keen.

Effie, on the other hand, is fab.

If you don't like it, have you any suggestions for something similar to Eppie or Effiie?

I have never heard of an epi pen or eppy fit before, are these well know things?

Well to give you a feel for our surname it sounds just like Trophy so does Effie Trophy sound awful with the repeated f sound and both being two syllables??

Yes, there's a (very un-pc) slang phrase 'taking an eppie' which I guess derives from 'taking an epileptic fit' and means having a temper tantrum.

Eppie, no sorry just brings to mind that vile 'eppy fit' phrase.

Effie is better. She is a character in the Hunger Games though - not sure whether that would affect your decision? I wouldn't use either as a full name in their own right though and I don't usually have an issue with shortened names.

Not sure Effra is a real name but Aphra is and it's awesome! I think Aphra Trophy sounds cool too.

The only Effie I've come across is short for Josephine.

All that cones to mind is eppie pen and epileptic fit, colloquially getting very worked up about something.

Aoife is nice, but lots of people don't know how to pronounce it.

Effra is a river that ran through Brixton, it joins the Thames just by the M!5 building. Useless factoid of the day.
Eppie sounds like 'dont have an epi' or epi-pen - the poor girl would never hear the last of it.
