Does Harriet fit?

Expecting a fifth child in September. Children are called Jack, Alexander, Sarah and Mary.

DH and I made individual names lists over the weekend, and while there were several boy names we both liked, there wasn't a single girl name that found its way on both mine and DH's

Harriet was on my list and DH said that while he loves the name, it wasn't on his list, as in his opinion it doesn't "fit in" with Sarah and Mary, (he says it does work with Jack and Alexander though). Obviously I disagree with him, I see all the names as being traditional/classic, so a good fit.

So what do you think, does Harriet "fit" or not?

Perfectly! :)

hunreeeal · 24/03/2014 21:07

Yes it goes really well with the other names.

invicta · 24/03/2014 21:09

All classic names.

Bowlersarm · 24/03/2014 21:11

It works brilliantly. You have your girls name OP.

Now, do you need our input on your boys name? Grin

TessOfTheBaublevilles · 24/03/2014 21:15

Bowlersarm - this is our first draft for boy's:

Gabriel
Samuel
Edward
Edmund
Leo
James (Jack and James?)
Jude (Jack and Jude?)

Ooh, nice. You have great taste.

I like them all except Edmund, although I like Ed.

I think the J names are fine with Jack.

GimmeDaBoobehz · 24/03/2014 21:19

It's a lovely name and goes very well.

Also like Jack and Jude (together, that is) and find it fine as the vowel that follows isn't the same nor sounds the same, but others might disagree.

Definitely like Leo and Samuel though.

linney · 24/03/2014 21:20

Lovely to see some genuinely unusual names for a change (Sarah and Mary!)

I don't think you can have Jack and James or Jack and Jude- sorry. Edward is lovely and has loads of shortenings!

alita7 · 24/03/2014 21:45

Harriet fits fine, I love it but DP doesn't :p

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 24/03/2014 21:53

Edward/Edmund lovely. No to Jude or James, with Jack.

Ham69 · 24/03/2014 23:11

One of my all time favourite girl's names. I think it fits perfectly with your other DC's names.

Lottiedoubtie · 24/03/2014 23:13

Harriet definitely, it's lovely and fits in well.

For boys, I'd vote for Samuel and then Edward.

holycowwhatnow · 24/03/2014 23:18

Lve it and it fits beautifully. Loved it since I read Harriet the Spy as a child.

Lancelottie · 24/03/2014 23:24

Not Gabriel with Mary, or Jack with James. The rest are great.

Vijac · 25/03/2014 21:27

I agree with your husband that it is slightly different from your other girl names, which are simpler and more biblical (something like Ruth, Anna or Rachel would match more). However, I don't think it matters. It goes well enough and all are classic and well known.

Vijac · 25/03/2014 21:28

Also, I like it!

Oubliette0292 · 25/03/2014 21:36

Your obviously on a similar wavelength to my parents - they went for Mary, Sarah, Lucy, Edward and James.

I think Harriet is nice and doesn't seem strange besides your other names.

DramaAlpaca · 25/03/2014 22:30

Harriet fits very well with your other names, and is lovely.

Not sure about another J name for a boy, and definitely wouldn't use Gabriel as you have a Mary, but the others are all really good choices.
