Is it weird to have siblings with the same initial?

I love the names Alice and Flynn for this baby but A and F are the same initials as my other children. Is this something to avoid? Do you like these names?

I have a relation who has nine kids.

All the boys begin with B
All the girls begin with C

Although its often talked about on here as being an issue, it wouldn't bother me at all. I don't often get mail adressed to me using only my first initial. If I do, its never personal. I don't think one dc opening the other dc's insurance renewal form, or whatever, as being a particularly big deal. It definitely wouldn't be enough to put me off a name I loved.

It's probably a tiny thing but I have two examples of when a shared initial has been an issue.

A friend (who shares an initial with her Dh, so not the same) opened a running away account. He opened the statement addressed to J Bloggs (which was his name and her name)

When I was 15 and my sister 13 a Valentines Card was delivered to our house. We still have no idea who it was intended for. (we share an initial)

The only issue I can see might be that they don't know who post is intended for.

I share an initial with my (only) brother. For some reason it's always bothered me and struck me as unimaginative. I have no idea why though!

I think it would depend on the baby's gender. Two Miss A Bloggs would be harder than a Miss and Mr for post.

I had a sister with the same initial and it did bother me! We constantly opened each other's mail and had other issues. Bugged the hell out of me so I made sure neither names or possible nicknames had the same initials for all of our kids!

Like we will be opening mail in 20 years time! This is the most ridicolous middle class conundrum I have ever heard. It makes me laugh it is so bad!

Firstly, Alice & Flynn are gorgeous names.

Secondly, I don't think it matters in the least if siblings share an initial.

You can always make sure their middle names have different initials, which might help with the mail issue.

I don't think it's an issue. It's only when people have 4+ children who all have the same initial that it seems a bit naff!

My siblings both have the same initial, but they have middle names with different initials, so post was easily identified by those.

I have the same initial as DS1 - not deliberately, it just happened! - but also different middle initials. He's only 6 though so not really an issue just yet.

As long as the names aren't too similar like Alice and Alex or flynn and finley then it's fine :)

I wouldn't have thought the mail thing would matter either if it's a boy and a girl with the same initials, because it would be Mr A or Miss A. Use the names you love, and you can always put the first and middle initials on online forms and everything so mail will be sent to Mr A and then Miss A J for example

Me and my brother share an initial, and it's never been a problem. By the time we got any relevant post like bank statements we Wernt living together (so maybe this depends on the age gap?)

It is a non-issue. Seriously if you like the names please don't discount them on the off chance that when they start receiving mail it may one day mean sibling A opens something intended for sibling B. The amount of time they will probably be living under the same roof together with you, and receiving mail is so short, and any mistakenly opened post can be handed over. Go for it.

My children have the same initial. We just happened to like two names that started with the same letter. Had DD2 been a boy the initials would have been different. Not a problem at all so far, I think it's really nice actually. And I've saved money on clothing name tapes

Dh and ds1 have the same initial - I'm sure he will open ds's post by accident when the time comes, but hey ho, he isn't the type to read it if he did. My dh also has the same initial as his dad - fil once opened a vibrator dh had bought for a stag do (I've never asked why and I don't want to know....), so that was quite embarrassing for them both (dh was mid twenties, living with his parents at the time).

7 kids with same initial would be maybe a tiny bit odd (though, frankly, who cares). Two is absolutely fine.

My sister and I have the same initials. I found it very frustrating growing up re:post etc but it isn't a huge deal. I then went on to get married so changed my surname and now have different initials but gage traded that in for having exactly the same name ( first, middle and surname) as my sister in law... Sigh

Never bothered DSIS and me, never thought about it until DH mentioned one of my suggestions for DD2 had the same initial as DD1.
