Building the long list...

I had my 12 week scan on Wednesday, so feels legitimate to post about baby names! Trying to get a long list going - girls names are proving easier than boys so far...

Our surname is fairly common, two syllables and ends in an "uhn" sound. So names like Dylan or Romain are (sadly) out. So if we like the following (possibly French, not too popular but equally not too out there, can be shortened) what else might work? Thanks, all!

Girls:

Alexa, Xanthe, Coralie, Elodie, Edith, Beatrix, Inez, Iris, Esme

Boys:

Toby, Jasper, Alister, Louis, Ludo, Nico (but those last two don't quite work with surname), Seth

Congratulations! And you've got a lovely list going so far. How about;
Jeannie, Coraline, Oriole
Luther, Titus, Nikolai

LePetitPont · 15/03/2014 19:01

Thanks, mogz, it's great to get your positive feedback. Ludo is the main one we've tested out in real life, to a mixed response!

Love Nikolai to get to Niko.

Working on the "french, not too popular and can be shortened" criteria you listed here are some girl suggestions

Clemence (my fav at the moment)
Leonie
Juliette
Melina
Faustine
Evangeline
Malin

Couldnt really come upwith boys names that fit all the criteria but noticed you like short snappy names with "o"

Alisvolatpropiis · 16/03/2014 02:07

I love Esme (assuming you're pronouncing it Emay?)

Really love Japer too. Sounds bad with the surname so can never use it.

LePetitPont · 16/03/2014 12:14

Excellent work, mumsnetters!! Some additions to our list there.

SaraMy actual favourite boy's name is Jago, but our stupid surname begins with a G and it just sounds daft. it would go much better with my maiden name and Clemencie was on my list but DH vetoed it.

Also wondering about Ezra or Asher for a boy, but not sure about Biblical nature. Hmm.

I also really like Elinor - having posted on the Princess thread about Elinor of Aquitaine, I should take my own advice!!

Love Esme.

Ludo is cute and I like Toby and Louis too. Hate Seth.

Clara / Claudia / Claudette / Vivienne / Yvonne / Yolande

Lucas / Sebastian / Laurence / Alain / Michael / Philip(pe)

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/03/2014 16:22

LOVE Asher. Would have been a middle name, had either of my dds been ds!

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 16/03/2014 16:22

Elinor is lovely too.

brachiosaurus · 17/03/2014 11:12

Love your list!

How about Celeste, Francesca, Gabrielle.

LePetitPont · 14/05/2014 17:03

Just thought I'd pop back to say thanks for those that came up with girls' names... (winner was Coralie nn Coco) but all in vain as we are having a boy!

So the list is now looking a bit different as my husband has got involved, thrown in some suggestions - mostly beginning with a J! - and written down names with our surname. We have:

  • Alister (nn Ali or Albie)
  • Albie (if not too much of a nickname, Albin just sounds bad with the surname)
  • Leo (thanks, SimplySara)
  • Theo (thanks, guineapig2014)
  • Seth is still there (more OH than me...)
  • Louis
  • Josh (but can it stand on its own without an -ua on the end?)
  • Jules
  • Jude

Middle names x 2 to definitely include William as both our grandfathers were called William and possibly Ludo/Romain depending on the first name.

Thoughts welcomed on the revised list!

Theo or Jude for me.

Have you considered:
Elias
Kit
Tate
Noah

Angelto5 · 14/05/2014 17:15

how abt alexander or xander.it goes lovely with william

AWombWithoutARoof · 14/05/2014 17:19

Jonah
Judah
Dashiell
Asa
Arthur

LePetitPont · 14/05/2014 19:58

Thanks for additional suggestions. peanut Tate was on husband's list but didn't grab me. Like Noah but we already know a couple - same with Arthur, AWomb.

Angel love Alex and works well with our surname. Was actually one of the first names we both loved and thought all was decided with minimal discussion. However - turns out the husband's Alex is a little girl!

Kit is great, what would it be short for (if anything?).

Should say not big on the biblical names... Seth has sneaked in there as I kind of thought that was what Mr Fabregas' name was. Not Cesc! Blush
