givemeaname · 14/03/2014 16:15

expecting our first in around 6 weeks, we have lots of boys names that we agree on but cant agree on any girls names!
I love Eden, its pretty, feminine and short and strong (cant be shortened). Husband not keen on it.
I also like
Esmae
Grace
Tilly
Olivia
Sophia
Husband doesn't like any of them.
can you think of names similar to any of these? Im hoping I can still have Eden as a middle name :)

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
thegreylady · 14/03/2014 16:50

My only objection to Eden is that there is a precocious little American pageant princess with the name. Google Eden Wood and see what you think. However it is a pleasant enough name and could be shortened to Edie if you liked.

MarieJeanne · 14/03/2014 16:55

I like Eden. It's quite unusual without being weird, and I've never heard of Eden Wood. It's my favourite out of all your choices.

NadiaWadia · 14/03/2014 17:52

I really like it, has a lovely sound and nice associations (Garden of Eden) and fairly unusual. It is my third favourite of your names, after 1. Olivia and 2. Sophia (although I realise they are ultra-popular).

I think Tilly needs to be short for something, Matilda being most obvious.

Sorry your DP doesn't agree. Has he come up with anything himself?

Boulders · 14/03/2014 19:43

Historically a boys name, but sounds better for a girl.

honeybeeridiculous · 14/03/2014 22:22

I like it, very pretty

natandmat · 15/03/2014 00:33

Eden is a boys name to me, sorry :-)

Sanoie1 · 18/03/2014 12:22

Eden is my girl name (im 8 weeks pg). I'll shorten to Edie.

Blueberrybaby · 18/03/2014 12:25

All of your names are nice, although I don't really like Esmae or Esme for that matter. Just something about the pronunciation that is a bit clunky to me.

It's all a bit irrelevant if your DH doesn't like them. What has he come up with?!

LizSurly · 18/03/2014 12:30

Love Edie but Eden is dreadful. /what about Edel?

Gileswithachainsaw · 18/03/2014 12:32

Love it.

Edie is awful but Eden is lovely

I think
Of Eden sher not the pageant girl.

WhispersOfWickedness · 18/03/2014 12:37

I know an Eden, he is a boy. It is quite nice for either sex though Smile

Northernlurker · 18/03/2014 12:38

Eden is the victim in a Ruth Rendall novel. Awful name imo, sorry.

Ada?
Emma?
Viola?
Charlotte?

WhoAteAllTheCremeEggs · 18/03/2014 12:38

Eden is lovely so is Esmae. Your names are all feminine without being princessey thats what I love too.
My girls names where Esmee/ Seren/ Maeve/ Erin/ Orlaith/ Rae

WeAreEternal · 18/03/2014 12:44

I went to university with a boy called Eden so to me it is always a boys name. I also know of a boy at DS's school called Eden.
I know people use it as a girls name too so it works as both.

I much prefer Edie for a girls name though.

Burren · 18/03/2014 13:19

The Edens I know are both boys.

eggybrokenoff · 18/03/2014 13:31

its gorgeous - that or esme would have been my girls name but I am expecting ds3 (nosy what boys names do you like? we are stuck!)

I also liked tansy and hebe

KLou1105 · 18/03/2014 16:34

A friend just named her LO Eden Olivia and i really like it. What about
Elsie
Polly
Alana
Enya/Anya

MoonHare · 18/03/2014 16:41

I also know of an Eden who is a boy, although I've always thought it was more suited to girls....

Of your others I like Esmé and Tilly.

How about Thea, Elsa, Isla, Tansy, Sorrell, Bryony, Anita, Thalia, Imogen, Iris, Rosa, Lydia, Esther.

manicinsomniac · 18/03/2014 17:07

Love Eden and also really like Sophia, Esmae and Grace. Tilly and Olivia are okay.

You seem to like quite a range of styles. I'm surprised your husband hasn't liked any of them at all. How annoying!
