Is it too synonymous with the Duchess of Cornwall?

I think not, and have taught two lovely Camillas. DH says yes and thus vetoed it :(

MyNameIsKenAdams · 09/03/2014 11:31

Males me think of Chummy from Call the Midwife, who is marvellous.

alita7 · 09/03/2014 11:42

Sorry but that's what I think of... But that could just be me.

HelloBoys · 09/03/2014 11:43

I prefer the French version Camille. Which can be shortened to Cami.

Camilla just reeks of Sloane to me. Grin

EdithWeston · 09/03/2014 11:52

I think the Duchess is an obvious association that many people will make. How much does that bother you?

It brings to my mind the snotty cousin in 'A Pony for Jean' but as those books have been out of print for yonks or only available from specialist reprint publishers, I doubt many other people would have that thought.

Mrsindecision · 09/03/2014 12:13

The problem with the name Camilla is that it will become increasingly associated with the Duchess of Cornwall when Charles becomes King, so even if it doesn't have a strong association for people atm, it will do then!

GoldenDaffodil · 09/03/2014 14:32

I love it but we vetoed it because of the duchess association.

GoldenDaffodil · 09/03/2014 15:09

I love it but we vetoed it because of the duchess association.

Alisvolatpropiis · 09/03/2014 16:17

I love it and care not a jot about the Duchess of Cornwall association.

I do however have a problem in that I called my dog Milly. Even if I didn't shorten Camilla to Milly, others would. Just wouldn't work Sad

sleepingbeautiful · 09/03/2014 17:09

Not to me, as I went to school with one.
I think if you call your DD that, you might get some initial comments, but then it will just become her name and no one will mention it.

BirthdayMuppet · 09/03/2014 20:35

Camille is much nicer than Camilla.

tertle · 09/03/2014 21:18

Love Camilla. Unfortunately my husband doesn't. People may initially think of the duchess but that will quickly pass in my opinion.

onedev · 09/03/2014 21:23

Definitely Parker Bowles - awful name in my opinion!

looki · 09/03/2014 22:38

I don't think many would think you were influenced by the Duchess tbh. It's refreshing to see the full name than the sea of Millie's and Amelia's around!

NightCircus · 09/03/2014 22:40

I really like it. I think if you use it it will 'become' your daughters name anyway.
C P-B has also really grown on me.

Fairenuff · 09/03/2014 22:45

Lovely name but it does remind me of Gavin and Stacey.

trufflehunterthebadger · 09/03/2014 22:55

All the Camillas that I have known have been lovely so it has good associations for me.

squoosh · 10/03/2014 11:35

It's very horsey

Puddles1234 · 10/03/2014 18:17

I adore the name Camilla it is currently one of the frontrunners on our baby list.

Its a beautiful classic name and maybe some people will think of the Camilla Duchess of Cornwall connotations but if you love it use it. Also Camilla is the future Queen of England so its not all bad.

BaconAndAvocado · 10/03/2014 22:21

I prefer Camille.

I just find it incredibly try-hard, sorry. I think it's a name middle class people use when they're trying to be posh. It screams it to me.

And yes, it really just means DoC now.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 11/03/2014 11:10

The only other famous one I can think of is Camilla Dallerup the Danish ballroom dancer.

With such an enormous age gap, even if the Duchess becomes Queen (or Princess Consort?!) I don't think it will be an issue for most of your DD's life.

It's a lovely name - or how about Camille?

Alisvolatpropiis · 11/03/2014 18:31

Say what you mean Daily, don't hold back Grin

There's Camilla Mackintosh (Professor Green's wife) and Camilla Luddington (actress) as well, in terms of other in the public eye Camilla's.

I find Camille a bit try hard myself, but as previously stated in the thread, do really like Camilla.

OneMoreThenNoMore · 11/03/2014 18:41

I like it. I love Camille though. Both were on my girls name list. Smile
