I like this but is it a bit common now due to the model cara delevigne?

I like it, and I'd never have thought of anyone else with that name. I haven't met any baby Caras either.

2girls4lou · 08/03/2014 11:52

I like it but did immediately think of Cara Delevigne, not that that is a bad thing. I don't think it's too common either

Topaz25 · 08/03/2014 12:18

I love it! Such a lovely meaning. It didn't make me think of the model. There's always the alternative spelling of Kara if you want to make it a bit different from her name.

Greenandcabbagelooking · 08/03/2014 12:21

I love it! My friend from university is called Cara, and she's lovely. I prefer C to K spelling though.

Floggingmolly · 08/03/2014 12:21

Is it common? It's more usual in Ireland, where it means "friend".
It's lovely Smile

EyelinerQueen · 08/03/2014 12:23

It's a lovely name. I'm Irish and love the meaning Smile .

No-one will remember Cara Delevigne in 2 years time.

And don't spell it with a K. It's horrible.

maillotjaune · 08/03/2014 12:27

I love it, makes me think of a really lovely woman I used to work with. Don't know of any Cara at DCs' school.

Topaz25 · 08/03/2014 12:28

Kara is a legitimate alternative, it's from the Cornish word, meaning love. There's more information on the name Cara, related names and other famous bearers here. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cara_%28given_name%29

GwenStacy · 08/03/2014 12:30

Our daughter has Kara as a middle name. It was a geeky compromise - husband wanted Gwen Stacy, I settled for Kara after Battlestar Galactica, Powergirl and Supergirl ;-)

Topaz25 · 08/03/2014 12:34

Yes, it reminds me of Battlestar Galactica too. Sadly can't use it for a girl as DH wants Gaius for a boy and that sibling combination might be a bit weird! But if we did use it I would defineitley want the Battlestar Galactica spelling!

Topaz25 · 08/03/2014 12:34

*definitely

scottishmummy · 08/03/2014 12:36

I do think of the elastic faced model when hearing cara
But it's a nice name
The name will have more longevity than a gurning model

scottishmummy · 08/03/2014 12:38

Gaius?christ no.sounds like gallus

VerucaInTheNutRoom · 08/03/2014 12:39

I know lots of little girls called Cara but then I do live in NI.

FastWindow · 08/03/2014 12:41

Love, love love Cara/Kara. Was my choice for Ds if he was a girl.

Also love Kari. It's Norwegian.

Topaz25 · 08/03/2014 13:56

Gaius?christ no.sounds like gallus

Hadn't heard of gallus before lol. That's interesting. We're not in Scotland though so I don't think it will be a problem and the middle part of the name is different.

wigglesrock · 08/03/2014 14:27

I live in NI & know about 7 Caras under 5.

It's a lovely name.

pommedeterre · 08/03/2014 18:12

We are considering it if dc3 is a girl!

For us with a c and thinking of the Italian connotation.

Dont know any others!

winterhat · 08/03/2014 18:47

It's a lovely Italian name. Much clearer-sounding than Clara.

Glasshammer · 08/03/2014 18:50

Clara is also nice

EyelinerQueen · 08/03/2014 18:52

Re: Italian names I've always loved Chiara. So pretty.

sleepingbeautiful · 09/03/2014 05:22

I have a small one, and we know 1 adult, 1 teen and 1 other small. Only had compliments, but maybe I just don't know enough blunt/rude people ;)

crazylady2013 · 09/03/2014 08:48

My name is Caragh (silent "gh"). The spelling has confused people but I haven't minded having the name and never knew anybody with the same name (even the different versions).

dancemom · 09/03/2014 08:51

I'm in Scotland and know a Cara, a Kara and a few variations such as Kiara!

Orangeisthenewbanana · 09/03/2014 08:57

It's on our list (DH's suggestion actually!). I only know one, and she's in her 30's. Never even heard of the supermodel!
