nickname for Penelope?
Penny or Nell/Nelly?

I like both...what do you prefer?

FWIW DD1 has a lovely long name (4 syllables) but we found ourselves inevitably shorten it to 2 syllables as well.

Love Penelope - I wanted it but it doesn't go with our surname. I'd go with Penny or Polly.

BlueStarsAtNight · 27/02/2014 20:09

I think Penny comes more naturally as a nn but I like Nelly too :) (not much help!)

FustJantastic · 27/02/2014 20:10

My first thought for a nn was Nelly, love it!

morethanpotatoprints · 27/02/2014 20:14

I thought Nelly too before I clicked on thread.
Also, if she gets older and feels its babyish to can change it to Nell.

haleyalannahxo · 27/02/2014 20:15

I like Nellie the best :)

DorisPenguin · 27/02/2014 22:34

My name is Penelope; if you called me Nellie, I would have to kill you! Grin
Call the poor girl Penny!

ThatBloodyWoman · 27/02/2014 22:35

If not Penny, maybe Ellie?

LongDivision · 27/02/2014 22:39

I'm not crazy about Penny, but I think 'Pen' would be cute.

chattychattyboomba · 27/02/2014 22:45

Hmmmm not keen on Pen. Might just evolve over time but not sold. Good to have an actual Penelope for feedback! Thanks! Your opinion is important! As far as Ellie goes, DH loathes 'Ella' 'Belle' type names (eg. Isabelle) something about them being 'too sweet' like Tinkerbelle, Cinderella (??? Don't ask what goes on in his brain) so on that grounds I don't think Ellie is an option.

Our Penelope is penny, pen, penpots, pen pen, and my ds and dd1 call her Penello which is frankly odd but quite cute at the same time.

SomethingAboutNothing · 27/02/2014 22:50

I know a Nell, full name Penelope. Very cute!

chattychattyboomba · 27/02/2014 23:07

Washngo- very cute....getting excited now to meet my Penelope! Squeeeeee!

You could also use Poppy if you really wanted...

HyvaPaiva · 28/02/2014 14:56

I prefer Pen. I went to school with a Penelope who called herself Penelle.

DonkeysDontRideBicycles · 28/02/2014 17:46

Two I heard of, Poppy and Milady (what Parker used to say to Lady Penelope of "Thunderbirds", bit contrived but it was a long time ago).

squoosh · 01/03/2014 04:15

I like Pen.

Nelly! If my name was Nelly I'd be high all day too.

peachysweet · 01/03/2014 08:23

I'd use Nell or Nellie.

LePetitPont · 01/03/2014 10:55

My best friend is a Penelope. She goes by Penny, her dad used to call her Nelly when she was little (which she hated!) and she also gets P a lot.

KonkeyDong · 01/03/2014 14:25

A friends DD couldn't say Penelope for someone in our group so calls her Pepe.

Lozmatoz · 01/03/2014 16:30

Nelly the elephant.....

Penny much nicer!

Anjou · 01/03/2014 16:32

Pep or Pepper.

ginzillas · 02/03/2014 08:01

I love Nel as a nickname for Penelope.
But it would annoy me that the nickname doesn't start with the same letter as the long name.
Probably really pedantic but it's a real 'thing' for me!
Love the name Penelope in general though.
