Probably as a middle name...it means 'sea'. Pronounced like Karen.

Just wanted any first thoughts...thank you!

It has a nice soft sound. I also like Marit (Norwegian form of Margaret) and Maris (Latin, and sea related).

It's nice. I like it. A version of Marina.
I also like Mara and any of the Mary variants.
Unusual but pretty.

Lottapianos · 27/02/2014 17:28

male or female? I met Maren last year on a course. He was 6.5 & from Poland

Thewhingingdefective · 27/02/2014 18:37

Never heard it before, but I like it.

We considered Marin for DS due to the sea connection (DH is a keen sailor). I think it is a lovely name. Unusual, but has a classic feel.

Lovely German name which we considered for dd (dh is half german and we have a german surname), however we were worried that it wouldn't be pronounced correctly in the UK and we'd spend all our time correcting people. The correct german pronunciation is MAHR-ren (rather than 'marren' or 'mare-ren')

BlueChampagne · 28/02/2014 21:58

Like it

DramaAlpaca · 28/02/2014 21:59

It's nice. I'd also pronounce it MAHR-ren.

Yes! My friend has a Maren, and I think it's lovely.
Just the right side if twee and dreamy, but not too pretty and fussy.
