I know that the name is marmite but its after really growing on me lately. I think it's fresh, strong, quirky, cool and would suit a boy and a man.

I'm not yet pregnant (fertility issues Sad) but like to think ahead to hopefully a bfp!

I have a ds called Eli. Other names I love are Arlo, Asa and Ezra!

So what do you all think of Rex???

UnicornCrisps · 26/02/2014 11:32

It sounds like a dogs name to me

NoArmaniNoPunani · 26/02/2014 11:32

I love it.

JammyPodger · 26/02/2014 11:34

I like it. Love Arlo too

DitsyDonkey · 26/02/2014 11:36

Unicorn.....yep I get the dog thing, I even knew a dog named Rex, but it doesn't bother me.

I also know dogs called Lily, Poppy, Charlie, Javk etc etc that doesn't stop people using those names!

I don't like it. Your other names are fine (though I don't love them) but a big NO to Rex. Sorry!

NoArmaniNoPunani · 26/02/2014 11:39

I know an anaesthetist called Rex. He's in his 60's and a total dude. I don't get the dog reference at all. Dogs are called all kinds of names

CoteDAzur · 26/02/2014 11:41

Rex is a dog. Or a pet dinosaur.

UriGeller · 26/02/2014 11:54

Oh no. Please. Its really unfriendly and harsh. Can you imagine cooing over your newborn and then barking, "REX" at him?

Its impossible to vocalise it in a gentle way. And then when he's older, calling him? "REX!" "REX!" The poor mite will be scared stiff!

I love Arlo, which is a very different sound to Rex. And Eli has a very gentle sound too. Wonder why you like REX?

UnicornCrisps · 26/02/2014 11:55

Oh my daughter has a ’dogs name’ too so I wasn’t saying don’t use it, just that’s what it sounds like. I considered Felix for a boy which is absolutely a cats name.

Wossname · 26/02/2014 11:56

I like it, means king doesn't it?

RatherBeOnThePiste · 26/02/2014 11:59

Yaaaaaaay

There is a Rex in my family. He is 9 now. Love it. They don't live in the uk so think he escapes the izzit a dog name saga

Rex is fab!

Ignore all these nay Sayers!!

Grin
BikeRunSki · 26/02/2014 12:09

Never did my GF any harm.

DitsyDonkey · 26/02/2014 13:46

Just as I thought a rather polarising name! Grin I still think it is pretty great.....just not sure if I would be brave enough!!!

I love it. We got cats years before kids were on the agenda and gave them our favourite boy/girls names so we werent jinxed by saving them. Rex was the boy name. Im now pg and struggling to find a boys name I love as much but we will eventually settle on something should this be a boy baby.

tammytoby · 26/02/2014 14:13

I prefer Arlo and Ezra - they sound stronger and more 'complete'.

RalphRecklessCardew · 26/02/2014 14:18

Rex Stout, Rex Whistler. Go for it.

squoosh · 26/02/2014 14:19

One of my MOST favourite names. Yes some people will say 'it's a dog's name' but so what, these days most dogs seem to be called Oscar and Max.

It's a good grown up name, short, snappy, well known, masculine, super cool, not over used.

Rex is king!

Arlo will date really badly. Ezra is a rifle obsessed American hillbilly with two teeth in his head.

Makes me think of dogs or dinosaurs rather than people.

BrunoBrookesDinedAlone · 26/02/2014 19:27

Oh no, it's really harsh.

I don't think of dogs though, I think of sixtysomething lotharios smoking cigars in casinos, their veiny corded throats juddering as they emit thin reedy laughs at something their thirtysomething female companions have whispered in their ears.

'Rex darling, let's go upstairs.'

Argh!

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/02/2014 19:33

I really like it.

Don't think it sounds quite right with my surname though, so wouldn't be able to use it.

Alisvolatpropiis · 26/02/2014 19:37

I've never met a dog called Rex, though I'm sure there must have been some at one point.

Loads called Milly. Always interesting hearing that name being shouted in a park, 3 dogs and 2 little girls usually turn around Grin

Rhuba · 26/02/2014 19:39

My Dad is called Rex. He loves having an individual name. It makes it really easy for people to remember his name as an adult- good for business!

His parents did have a dog called Rex whilst their son Rex was a child- now that is just wrong!
