Have been reading Astrid Lindgren's fab Emil books to dc1 & it's made me think of Emil (see also Emil & the detectives!). I really like it. What do you think?

I have come across it spelt Emile more - i.e. Zola, Heskey, Hirsch. I prefer the with an 'e' spelling personally.

I love it I grew up in Denmark reading Astrid Lindgren and Emil and Ida are amongst my most favourite names.

Little Ida is a cute name too!

I wonder if Emil (i prefer without the e) struggles to translate as a male name in the UK though?

I work with a (male) Emil. He is lovely, very positive associations.
