How would you pronounce the names Acacia & Tamia?

OP posts:

invicta · 16/02/2014 18:49

A - case - sia

Tam - mia

verdiletta · 16/02/2014 18:53

Ah-CASE-ee-ah and I'd guess at Tam-EE-ah. That's how they pronounced Acacia on Bananaman anyway! (Showing my age)

SS3J · 16/02/2014 19:11

a-CASHE-uh and Tam-ee-uh. But both would be guesses as I have never come across anybody with either name.

lljkk · 16/02/2014 19:12

Uh-KAY-sha & TAM-ee-uh.

Seminyak · 16/02/2014 19:15

a-CASE-ia and TAMM-ia

mumbaisapphirebluespruce · 16/02/2014 19:21

A-kaish-a and Ta-mee-ya

LastOneDancing · 16/02/2014 19:52

A-Kay-sha and Tammi-ah.

Im guessing that is incorrect?!

LynetteScavo · 16/02/2014 19:55

A- Kay-sha

Tam- me-a

LynetteScavo · 16/02/2014 19:56

My mother says; A-kay-see-ah.

It really irritates me, but you'll probably all tell me I'm the one in the wrong. Grin

Middleagedmotheroftwo · 16/02/2014 19:59

Well the tree is Acaysha, isn't it?
And Tameea as in Narnia (Narneea)

florascotia · 16/02/2014 20:16

links:
www.macmillandictionary.com/pronunciation/british/acacia

and
www.forvo.com/word/tamia/ According to that site, 'tamia' means 'chipmunk'. And aren't ta'amia chickpea or bean patties, like felafel? link: hodmedods.co.uk/recipes/egyptian-falafels/

I'd assume Acacia is pronounced a-kay-see-a if they are British and a-kay-sha if they are American, emphasis on the kay in both cases.

I've never heard of Tamia, and wouldn't know how to pronounce it. I'd probably guess at ta-mee-a, emphasis on the mee.

Uh-KAY-shuh

TAM-ee-uh

Oriunda · 17/02/2014 14:58

Ah-Kay-sha like the honey
Tarm-e-ah but never heard so no idea, that's how I'd pronounce because Tam-y-ah sounds wrong

Lutrine · 17/02/2014 17:45

A-Kay-shuh and Tam-mee-uh

SilkStalkings · 19/02/2014 09:36
