Is Joseph too much of a religious name for a boy if we're atheists?

No not at all. It's a lovely name.

BlueStarsAtNight · 09/02/2014 22:11

I don't think so at all , it only has religious meaning to you if you are religious, so if you're not then it's just a nice name :)

HeadFullofSteam · 09/02/2014 22:20

No, our DS1 is Joseph. We are not in the least big religious, we just loved it as a name. He is 14 now and it is still my favourite name ever!

Bowlersarm · 09/02/2014 22:22

No. Lovely name.

Rhubarbgarden · 09/02/2014 22:23

It's a personal thing. I'm an atheist and wouldn't be comfortable with the associations of Joseph, but it's a very popular name and I'm quite sure not every Joseph has ravingly religious parents. Up to you.

lilibet · 09/02/2014 22:25

My great grandad was Joseph and Ds1 is Joseph, it's a olvely name and Joe is good too. I never considered the religious connotations

ZenNudist · 09/02/2014 22:33

Great name, considering fords2 mide name. We aren't religious & neither are the 2 families I know with a Joseph.

LizzieVereker · 09/02/2014 22:35

We have a Joseph (Joe) but he's named after Joe Gargery in Great Expectations, who I think is the nicest person I've ever heard of, in fact or fiction.

Mrswellyboot · 09/02/2014 22:37

We are considering it. I honestly wouldn't worry about the religious connotations with it. It is a good string name.

Mrswellyboot · 09/02/2014 22:38

Strong Blush

RedJeans · 09/02/2014 22:39

It's one of my favourite boys names! Strong classic. Also like nns Joe and Joey.

MotherOfInsomniacToddlers · 09/02/2014 22:42

Love it, I've been trying to convince dh that if we have another boy we will call him Joseph

Onesleeptillwembley · 09/02/2014 22:43

Most names have religious connotations. Ignore that (unless it's Jesus AND you're not Spanish, and I'd probably give Herod a miss).

twinklestar2 · 09/02/2014 23:11

Thanks everyone!

He'll be joe most of the time probably. Nothing religious about Joe!

PandaWatch · 10/02/2014 21:37
