Tomas or Edwin (Eddie)

Thoughts between these two please for our DS. Our DD is named Iris.

Thanks!

Edwin for me!

SS3J · 09/02/2014 18:34

I much prefer Tomas, but not sure it sounds right with Iris - bit too much 's' when said together. Not that it matters as long as it doesn't bother you. I don't like Edwin at all.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/02/2014 18:35

Like Tomas much more than Edwin (which I don't like at all, sorry) but wouldn't use Tomas with Iris.

Edmund?
Edward?

BackforGood · 09/02/2014 18:41

Is there a reason for Tomas rather than Thomas ? If in UK, will end up with a lifetime of having to correct spellings I'd have thought.

Edwin rocks!

Bowlersarm · 09/02/2014 18:44

Does it have to be without the 'h'.

Much prefer Thomas, but it needs to have the h for me.

BikeRunSki · 09/02/2014 18:48

I imagine the OP is from a culture that spells Tomas as she has. My nephew is Tomas and has had v few problems with it in his 17 years, but he does live in Wales.

RemusLupinsBiggestGroupie · 09/02/2014 19:08

Far prefer Tomas to Thomas, personally.

pancakesfortea · 09/02/2014 19:11

My grandfather was Edwin Thomas, and he was a fine man. Both excellent choices!

nello · 09/02/2014 19:13

Yes, I much prefer Tomas - Thomas makes me think of the tank engine! We don't live in the UK so dropping the h shouldn't be an issue.

I don't like Edwin but I like Edmund.

pancakesfortea · 09/02/2014 21:38

nello Ted for short?

yakisoba · 09/02/2014 23:19

We are a welsh family and have a Tomos Arthur. But Tomas Edwin sounds like a lovely choice.

Pregnantberry · 09/02/2014 23:30

This might sound like a strange first thought - but to me 'Edwin' sounds like a name for an owl.
I like Tomas! I don't think it clashes too much, maybe a bit, but if you say 'Tomas and Iris' out loud it doesn't seem like too much of a mouthful for me.

RoadToTuapeka · 10/02/2014 06:50

I don't like the spelling of Tomas unless there is a cultural reason for it, makes me want to pronounce it with an accent. But I like the name itself. Edwin I really like, if you are the market for names of Saxon kings you could go with Eadwin the spelling of which I love and I think Ead looks better written down than Ed.

BikeRunSki · 10/02/2014 08:23

^ you don't like the spelling of Tomas, but Eadwin is OK???

CreditCardProblemS · 10/02/2014 08:25

I don't like Edwin but I think it goes better with iris.
