I love Edwin. DH doesn't, but he may go for it if we use Eddie as a nickname - the more used name .

Thoughts on Eddie please...?

I prefer Edward as main name, with ed/ eddy/ ted/ teddy as nn

EnidClowes · 09/02/2014 15:58

Love it. Also Win as a nickname. I couldn't get DH to go for it though

WhiteHairReally · 09/02/2014 16:29

I'm biased as I have one, but what about Edmund? Edwins seem SO much older and more decrepit than Edmunds, who whilst being baddies in some literature (Narnia, King Lear) are redeemed or sexy baddies! There's Dickens' Edwin Drood but he's disappeared by the time Dickens leaves the novel unfinished when he dies.

'Edmund' can become nn 'Eddie' easily.

I really like Edwin. It's a change from Edward (which is also nice) and I don't really like Edmund (a bit wet sounding). Eddie is fine as nickname too (not Teddy which is very twee).

Our other thought is Tomas...but I do prefer Edwin.

Sorry. You asked for thoughts on Eddie, didn't you? Honestly? Eddie Grundy from 'the Archers' = well meaning wally. although Eddie Redmayne, ginger actor does redeem the name a good deal!

Our Edmund has become, from secondary school onwards 'Ed'. he has never been 'Eddie' or indeed 'Ned' our preferred nn, because we forgot to use it!

BonaDea · 09/02/2014 17:17

Not keen on Eddie really. How about Ted?

sleepingbeautiful · 09/02/2014 17:23

I like Edwin. It's DS mn.
Not sure about Eddie. I prefer Ed, Ted, Teddy or Ned.

Tomas is nice too, does your DH like it? Tomas Edwin would be good.

nello · 09/02/2014 17:57

Yes, DH likes Tomas. I do like Tomas Edwin...he might go for that - thanks winterhat

Do you think Tomas without the h is ok - we prefer it this way, and like there to be more of an 'a' rather than an 'uh' sound at the end, but wonder if people will think we just can't spell!

Eddie is nice

squoosh · 10/02/2014 11:52

I love Eddie.

I always think of Edwin as being a baddie's name.

soontobeslendergirl · 10/02/2014 12:33

I like Edwin and Tomas (it's fine without the "h", that's the forrin' spelling) But I like Edgar most of all. It's a bit more robust sounding than Edwin or Edmund imo, and obv a lot less common than Edward (which I also like)
