Jessa?

Hi all

I have posted in baby names before and am keen on the name Jessa. It seems to be an American name- a bastardisation of Jessica I guess.

I hadn't heard of it until Girls was on TV but something about it really strikes me. DH initially wasn't sure but has since said he likes it a lot.

Baby due in July- don't know what I'm having so it may be a moot point anyway.

Middle name would be Rachel and surname is one syllable, starts with a B.

Be honest- as it's not an often used name I don't know what the general consensus is.

I would put Jessica on the cert, and used Jessa as a nn if I loved it.

I've not heard if Jessa but I have heard of Jessame or Jessamy. It can be pronounced Jess-a-may or Jess-a-me (like sesame). It would be an alternative to jessica as a full name.

It could be short for Jessamy.

As long as your surname isn't Bell

Honestly? I think it's awful. Jess is nice Jessica is fine. Jessa sounds made up

I. Love the name but the character puts me off it tbh. If you had picked it up from elsewhere I'd have said yes. I know its a daft reason!

I think it will be short for Jessame though.

The Duggars have a Jessa also.

'Jessamyn' or 'Jessamine' could also be used as the longer version. They are archaic versions of 'Jasmine'.

Really like it. I've never quite liked Jessica purely because of the 'sic' in the middle! Stupid I know. I may put this on my list.

Oh she's brilliant! Ethereal, edgy, bohemian, feminist, confident and puts up a fight despite crap situations. I'd be happy for dd to be like her.

I love Jessa! Though it may be down to my obsession with Girls and anything created by Lena Dunham- so talented! Jessa is my favourite character on the show too.

Suggested it to DH but it was ruled out immediately.

It's quite nice, does sound a bit incomplete, like it should be Jessica, but other than that , it nice.

I like Jessas character in girls- even though she is a bit of a pain in the arse

I knew it would divide opinion but I do keep coming back to it. I think it's quite strong sounding.
