Help us resolve our stand-off! Boys name

I thought my DH and I had finally agreed a name - Zachary. I love it and he agreed it was top of his list (though said he was 90% rather than 100% sure).

Now he's thrown a curveball and announced that he likes Wilfred more. I think Wilfred/Wilf is a super cute name for a little one but am worried about its longevity into adulthood. I also just feel its not very 'me' - that I can't imagine naming my own son this, as much as I think it's a nice name. I feel a bit bad pushing back on this basis - am I being irrational or unreasonable, would I come to like it if we used it?

So what do you think? Do you prefer Zach or Wilf? And do you think my concerns about Wilfred are valid?

Boys names are so hard... we have had a girls name picked out for years!

I prefer Wilfred! He could be Will when her grows up. I really like it!

JRmumma · 05/02/2014 19:46

Another vote for Wilfred. Great name!

Don't really like Zachary if I'm honest.

eurochick · 05/02/2014 19:46

I prefer Zachary.

tinywife · 05/02/2014 19:46

I love Wilf - I have a 20 year old cousin called Wilf and I think it's a great name. He's very handsome and gets a lot of attention from girls!!

Zach is a good name too though :)

HyvaPaiva · 05/02/2014 19:47

I prefer Wilfred/Wilf/Wil/Fred.
I don't like Zachary at all, I'm afraid! Sorry.

PotteringAlong · 05/02/2014 19:47

Definitely Wilf!

BikeRunSki · 05/02/2014 19:48

I prefer Wilfred too.

NannyPeach · 05/02/2014 19:49

I prefer Zachary. I do think Wilfred / Wilf / Wil would work too though.

WhoNickedMyName · 05/02/2014 19:54

Wilf is much nicer, and can be Will too.

I really dislike Zachary.

ToffeeJungle · 05/02/2014 19:54

I much prefer Zachary, great name!
Not keen on Wilfred at all, maybe because I knew a dog called Wilf?!

ToffeeOwnsTheSausage · 05/02/2014 19:57

Doesn't matter what we think. This is your baby and you have to be happy. If you aren't, have a rethink.

How did you feel when people said you should choose Wilf? Were you disappointed? What is your gut feeling telling you?

Hawknotdove · 05/02/2014 19:58

Ha, you've hit the nail on the head- I worry Wilf is a bit too cutsie, the kind of name you might give to a pet. There seems to be a lot of love for it, from the feedback tho, so maybe I need to rethink.

Toffee, yes I felt disappointed. You are right, that should tell me something. I just hope I'm not being stubborn!

Wilf, will, Wilfred

I have a dn called zac he is a little shit

NadiaWadia · 05/02/2014 20:05

Zachary is much nicer. Wilfred is quite cute, but it is very 'little old man in a cloth cap'.

sausageandorangepickle · 05/02/2014 20:38

Remember he will be an adult much longer than a cute baby!

Initially I would have said Zachary, but I like Will or Fred much better than Wilf - have you thought about the alternative nicknames?

Oubliette0292 · 05/02/2014 20:50

Love Wilfred - prefer Isaac to Zachary (May be biased as DS is Wilfred Isaac)

MyNameIsKenAdams · 05/02/2014 20:51

Wilf is slang for penis roubd here, so for that alone Id go for Zachary

Hawknotdove · 05/02/2014 21:00

We do also like Fred/Freddie as a nn for Wilfred

William?

pygmy · 05/02/2014 21:01

Wilfred by a long way.

YoHoHoandabottleofWine · 05/02/2014 21:10

Zachary

I personally dislike Wilf, too many little old man names around at the moment

JumpingJackSprat · 05/02/2014 21:13

Zachary. Wilfred is awful.

FightingOverImaginaryIcecream · 05/02/2014 21:14

I much prefer Zachary to Wilfred, but prefer Wilf to Zach, also the Will/Fred options are more prolific... I'm still not sure if I could get my head around calling my DS Wilfred though, so I get where you're coming from!

onedev · 05/02/2014 21:18

I much prefer Zachary although it is v popular these days. Don't like Wilfred / Wilf at all & don't even think it's a cute animal name! Will's ok though & then he would have lots of options.

There's also a character in the Biff, Kip & Chipper books called Wilf, so he might like that when he's in Reception Grin
