So I think we are down to two names for our DD due in May. Would love to know which you prefer - Anya (nn Annie) or Maya?

Maya definitely, Anya sounds really hard.

jamtoast12 · 04/02/2014 13:28

Def Anya. Everytime I see Maya I see Myra and think of Myra hindley which I know is wierd but I can't help it! It is pronounced May-a as Mia is mee-a and Myah/Maia/mya are pronounced my-ah.

Though I prefer Anna/Annie to Anya.

Love Anya! Unfortunately, DH doesn't!

Anya

An-ya or Arn-ya though?

Anya

I know a couple of Maya's but no Anya's plus it's very pretty so I'd say Anya Grin

Spookey80 · 04/02/2014 13:43

Anya. I am trying to convince dh that we should use this for dc3 due in march. Really like it.

YouGrateMyCheese · 04/02/2014 13:56

If she or you ever move to the U.S. people will pronounce it My-uh, not May-uh. Of course a simple "we call her may-uh" would clear it up, but you would have to say that probably a half-dozen times per day. I've only ever heard it pronounced May-uh in the UK and Australia, even though like most names it's obviously a regional/personal thing.

I'd pick Anya, out of deference to Buffy the Vampire Slayer Grin

Ihatepeas · 04/02/2014 13:57

Anya is gorgeous. It's currently top of my list for imaginary dd2.
Not keen on Maya. sorry.

moogalicious · 04/02/2014 14:00

Maya is pronounced My-a as in Maya Angelou. Not many here in the UK but lots of Mia's and May-a's.

AGoodPirate · 04/02/2014 14:02

Anya.
Maya is nice but there are soooo many.

Maya. My dd was very nearly a Maya but doesn't sound right with her last name!

ThatBloodyWoman · 04/02/2014 14:31

Maya

susiedaisy · 04/02/2014 14:32

Maya

satintaupe · 04/02/2014 14:34

Anya.

2snugglets · 04/02/2014 14:36

Love Anya, it's unusual unlike Maya. Would have another baby just to use this name Smile

AnnabelleDarling · 04/02/2014 14:37

Anya

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 04/02/2014 14:41

Anya, much stronger name than Maya, which I find a bit drippy. Also more unusual.

Em1503 · 04/02/2014 14:45

I love Maya!

AnnieLobeseder · 04/02/2014 14:54

And it's My-a. Not May-a. Anyone who says May-a is wrong!

Like people who spell Deborah as Debra.

Prefer Maya of the two, but much prefer Anna/Annie.

NadiaWadia · 04/02/2014 15:16

Maya is lovely pronounced properly rhyming with 'fire'. As Maya Angelou does.

Anya is nice too, though.
