Alissia?

This is my very favourite for dd2 currently being vetoed by dp in favour of Amelia but I'm determined to win this one. I've been going along with Amelia for a while but it's not the one for me.

He said the name looks fussy but is only use the speling Alissia because I know some people will mispronounce the more conventional spelling Alicia as Alesha which I hate.

Baring in mind our surname is 3 syllables and 7 letters itself I appreciate a more uncomplicated first name spelling would be easier on the child.

I really really want Alissia (whatever the spelling tbh). In my head that's what my little girl is already called so I'm finding it hard to detach myself.

Dp has vetoed similar names Alice, Amelie. Emilia is out due to the Em start of surname.

I KNOW it's a joint decision and neither of us should "settle" but we've poured through name lists and the only one we agreed on is Amelia which yes is lovely but it's in the family ( a cousin's daughter).

:-(

I would choose this over Amelia purely because Amelia is very popular now

mathanxiety · 02/02/2014 07:23

I think it looks as if you can't spell Alicia, sorry. I think I agree with your DP that it looks fussy.

You can correct people's pronunciation -- most people who know you and see you frequently will remember the proper pronunciation, and with people you hardly ever see, it doesn't matter.

I think if your DP really doesn't like it, then you can't force him to accept it, and if you don't like Amelia he can't force you either.

I think you should both start again with a list of ten reasonable names. Strike two names off each other's lists, and discuss the names that are left.

DolomitesDonkey · 02/02/2014 07:33

Alissia looks like a spelling mistake. :(

CPtart · 02/02/2014 07:47

Alicia is one of my fave girl names, but not spelt your way.

Snakebiteandblack · 02/02/2014 07:50

I think your DD will have to correct others spelling a lot if you choose that name OP. Could you live with some people mispronouncing Alicia? or try something with a similar sound to Alicia- perhaps felicity? BTW if you like it, I think Emilia is fine if the surname starts Em- sounds nice to me.

Mumof3xx · 02/02/2014 07:51

I don't mind your spelling op but I seem to be the minority

How about Alyssa?

aGirlDownUnder1 · 02/02/2014 07:58

I quite like your spelling, Alissia is a lovely name

oohdaddypig · 02/02/2014 08:06

Sorry, it looks fussy and pretentious to me.
Alicia is lovely OTOH....

Tea1Sugar · 02/02/2014 09:07

It would annoy me that Alicia would be mispronounced by some as Alesha though

How about Elysia?

It's from Ancient Greek mythology and is pronounced very similarly to Alicia (Eh rather than Ah sound at the start).

HyvaPaiva · 02/02/2014 12:56

It looks like a spelling mistake. I agree with the suggestion of Elysia.

MrsRV · 02/02/2014 13:16

OP I am totally with you... I actually would pronounce Alicia more as Elise-ea not Alissia (A-liss-ea). I would spell Alissia exactly the way you have... I like this name too but DH doesn't. We've agreed on Amelia too! for now....

AGoodPirate · 02/02/2014 16:05

I don't like it. It looks weird.
People will only say Aleesha once with Alicia, you say "actually it's Aleesia" and that's it. Job done.

LittlePandaBear · 02/02/2014 16:08

I prefer the spelling Alyssia or just Alyssa - it doesn't look quite right with the i instead of the y. I agree that Alicia is a different name/sound.

Good luck convincing your DP!

Oriunda · 02/02/2014 16:23

I know an Alicia. She pronounces it Al-ish-a

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 02/02/2014 16:30

I have always known Alicia pronounced as Alice-ee-a. I don't like the spelling you've come up with, it looks like a spelling mistake.

I know an Alicia and I don't know anyone who calls her Aleesha.

KatherinaMinola · 02/02/2014 16:35

Lovely name, but please spell it Alicia.

Tea1Sugar · 02/02/2014 17:29

We've served. And settled on Emilia :D Love it. It is so The One!

I have my scan on Thursday and if it's a girl it will be Amelia, love the name so much x

Britishseamonkey · 02/02/2014 21:34

I like Alicia a lot and think its the nicer spelling. I knew an Alicia with nn Lissy - she never really had. Problem with the 'aleesha' pronouciation - people tend to go for the 'ss' sound first I think

mathanxiety · 03/02/2014 06:09

Lovely choice.
