Ranulph - what do you think?

I'm 37+3 with DS.

Too out there?

will it be shortened to Ran?

It sounds unfriendly to me. But that might be because I have met rather strange and unpleasant man with that name. Obviously if you like it then you should chose it, I think it goes with Heidi and Ran works for NN

Do you like Ralph?

sleepingbeautiful · 31/01/2014 00:17

Heidi and Ranulph sound ok together I think.
Probably will get Ran, but that's not a bad nn.
Ralph is easier in theory but then you get the Ralf or Rafe pronunciation thing...

SoonToBeSix · 31/01/2014 00:56

Not really how about Rueben

Innogen · 31/01/2014 02:31

I love it!

So much better than Ralph. Sophisticated.

lebkuchenlover · 31/01/2014 07:06

Ranulph is a great name - cool, classic and underused!

RalphRecklessCardew · 31/01/2014 07:12

More of a cat name, but would probably grow on me. The trad mumsnet advice of a fall-back dull middle name is good though.

SS3J · 31/01/2014 09:33

I like it. A good strong name!

TallRedhead · 31/01/2014 10:08

Thanks for all your replies.

I love it and know that once he is named he will 'become' the name so to speak.
I love that it is different but worry it is too different!!
Such a big decision that once they become their name seems so small in hindsight!
My husband loves it as he admires the climber/explorer Ranulph Fiennes!!

I love it, have considered it too. My biggest concern would be people using Randy as the nn which I hate. Although no one as mentioned it as a likely nn so maybe I was worrying over nothing.

tammytoby · 31/01/2014 14:48

Ranulph is a great name. Strong and not overused! I don't think it would need to be shortened, it rolls off the tongue easily.

Cinderelephant · 31/01/2014 18:31

That was our boys name choice with all pregnancies but we had three girls.

Writerwannabe83 · 31/01/2014 18:39

Is he going to be subjected to songs like, "Ranulph the red nosed reindeer...." ..... Hmm

TallRedhead · 31/01/2014 20:26

Good good. I think you've all helped me decide. I'm going to go for it!

Ranulph the red nosed reindeer la la la la la la......... Wink

Good choice, have you got a middle name lined up too?

TallRedhead · 01/02/2014 12:52

Ranulph Peter surname begins with N.

Peter is meaningful for us & wider family.
