Gabriel or Alexander?

Ok, so we're down to the final two and I'm swinging from one to the other. Which is it to be and why?!

They're both very nice names, but I prefer Alex to Gabe so I'd go for Alexander.

Gabriel! Lovely name that isn't overused.

Alexander is ok but Alex is a little dull - I know so many male and female Alexes.

Alexander. Doesn't have to be shortened to Alex either (though I like it) - can be Xander or Xan (please not Sandy or Eck though!)

Alexander, without a doubt. I don't like Gabriel or Gabe, and I think Alexander is so much more versatile, it will give him more options.

I prefer Alexander, Gabriel sounds too feminine to my ear. Also think Alex is much nicer as a short version than Gabe. Completely irrational but I love Gabrielle or Gabriella for a girl.

Both are lovely but for me it would be Gabriel, I love Alexander but not alex

I think Gabriel pips it, but only just.

Alexander - there are so many different ways to shorten it, if you want to.

Much prefer Alexander.

I love Gabriel, was on my short list for DS. Not keen on Alexander tbh, too overused.

I actually like them both but I know other Alexander's but no other Gabriel.

I am advised that all Alexanders are naughty.
(I don't believe this poppycock at all, but I have been told this by mothers of Alexanders, and I wanted an argument that was pro-Gabriel other than I just like it. Also, DH didn't like it, and it was one of my favourites.)

I have one of the other and regret giving him that name (it's the third one we tried out on him, nothing seems to suit him, so it might be him, not the name)
